AMCU members hurl stones at Mbalula SABC, Johannesburg, 27 April 2014 Police have had to whisk Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula away in bullet-proof vehicles after an election rally at Freedom Park in North West turned violent. Miners belonging to labour union, AMCU, hurled stones damaging several vehicles while Mbalula was conducting a door-to-door campaign. Mbalula said afterwards the ANC would not be intimated by lawlessness. AMCU miners have been on strike in the platinum belt since January 23 over wages. The latest pay offer by employers Amplats, Implats and Lonmin was rejected on Thursday.
