Department of Basic Education, 7 October 2014 Funza Lushaka bursary applications open The application period for the Funza Lushaka bursary scheme for the 2015 academic year is now open. Bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a full teaching qualification or a four-year Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.) or a three or four-year Bachelor's degree followed by a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). The programme is available to students studying at any of the 24 public Universities that presently offer initial teacher education studies. Recipients of a Funza Lushaka bursary are required to teach in a PED immediately after qualifying, for the same number of years that they had received a bursary.
