COSATU to convene a Special CEC to decide Vavi's fate The New Age, Johannesburg, 4 March 2015 ANN7 can exclusively confirm that the union federation COSATU will convene a Special Central Executive Committee meeting in three weeks time to determine the fate of General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi. The outcome of the special CEC will determine the extent of charges against Vavi and what action the federation will take against its general secretary. In August 2013, COSATU said Vavi had been put on special leave pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing relating to his affair with a junior employee. Other charges related to the sale of COSATU's headquarters for a lesser price than market related. Legal teams for Vavi and NUMSA argued that the manner in which the decision was taken to suspend the Vavi was undemocratic and a breach of COSATU's constitution.
