COSATU prepared to fight for workers' demands Steven Tau, The Citizen, Johannesburg, 23 March 2015 Leaders of the COSATU-affiliated unions, currently at loggerheads with Government in the public service wage negotiations, say they are prepared to camp outside the Public Service Bargaining Council (PSBC) until the employer comes up with a revised and improved offer. The unions have in recent weeks expressed concern at the employer for downgrading its offer to 4.8% from the initial 5.8% tabled towards the end of last year. JMC3.jpg The COSATU bloc Speaking on behalf of the COSATU unions, SADTU deputy general secretary, Nkosana Dolopi said they don't want anything but to see a deal concluded before the end of this month. "We are disappointed by the lack of urgency on the part of the employer, which does nothing but angers, provokes and agitate our members further. "We therefore appeal to the employer to take our workers serious and appreciate them for the work that they do," Dolopi said. Just before 5pm on Monday, Dolopi said their negotiators were still engaging their counterparts from Government. The seven unions represented by COSATU at the talks include SADTU, NEHAWU, POPCRU, DENOSA, SAMA, SASAWU and PAWUSA. Labour is demanding 10%.
