Morning Star.png Another US violation of Syrian sovereignty US Sending Soldiers to help their Kurdish YPG allies in Syria The Morning Star, London, 26 April 2016 US President Barack Obama announced the deployment of up to 250 more troops to Syria yesterday to aid a Kurdish militia which recently clashed with government forces. Speaking on a state visit to Germany, Mr Obama claimed: "They're not going to be leading the fight on the ground." In his latest violation of Syrian sovereignty, Mr Obama said that the force - mostly composed of Green Beret army special forces - would join 50 operatives working with the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance of the Kurdish YPG and small local Arab militias. While those groups have been fighting Islamic State (Isis), last week clashes broke out between the US-armed YPG and Syrian National Defence Forces (NDF) reservists in the Turkish border town Qamishli with the Arab militias siding with the NDF. Warmongering In his speech in Hanover, Mr Obama also said Washington's European NATO allies had been complacent over their own defence and urged them to spend more on arms. The US president later held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande and Italian PM Matteo Renzi. On the agenda were the wars in Syria and Ukraine and relations with Russia. While claiming he wanted good relations with Russia, Mr Obama said the "global community" should maintain sanctions against Moscow until it honours its "commitments" to the Minsk II Ukraine peace deal - to which Russia is not a party. Mr Obama said a united and strong Europe was vital to the world, which was experiencing the most peaceful and prosperous era in history.
