ANC no letters.jpg 7 June 2016 ANC Wishes Muslim Community Well Over the Holy Month of Ramadan The African National Congress (ANC) wishes members of the Muslim community well as they prepare to observe the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is regarded as the most sacred month on the Muslim calendar, and is marked by fasting and abstinence. It is also an immensely spiritual time as it commemorates the time when Islam's holy book the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During Ramadan Muslims traditionally perform charitable acts such as feeding the poor. As the governing party the ANC affirms its commitment to religious tolerance and coexistence: the Muslim community are an integral part of the rich cultural and religious tapestry that is South Africa. The ANC wishes our Muslim brothers and sisters not just in South Africa but around the world Ramadan Kareem. May this period be one of peace, harmony, goodwill and spiritual contentment.
