SADTU to train Eastern Cape Principals in Instructional Leadership

The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) will, through its
Curtis Nkondo Professional Development Institute, hold a three-day School
Management Team (SMT) training programme for 330 principals from the Eastern
Cape's iDutywa and Butterworth districts.

This training is aimed at fulfilling the Union's 2030 Vision which is
pillared on among others, servicing of union members and creating a learning
nation.

The Union is running the programme in partnership with the Nelson Mandela
University and the Education Training Sector Education and Training
Authority (ETDP-SETA) which provides funding.

While the overall aim of the learning program focuses on placing overall
planning and preparation in the hands of the principals, we understand that
this is just one step in many to enable principals to organize their schools
to improve the quality of teaching and learning. It is the union's intention
to advocate for better quality teacher development programmes and the type
of learning that would positively impact on school culture and learner
outcome.

The Districts targeted are also part of the Institute's District
Intervention program; an approach that has yielded positive results for
learner outcome and for systems improvement. These principals will be
equipped to collaborate and take a different approach towards improving
their schools.

The programme will take place as follows:

. Date: 9 - 11 June, 2016

. Times: Day 1: 9h00 to 17h00; Day 2: 8:30 - 17h00; Day 3: 8:30 - 15h00

. Venue: King David Hotel, East London

The media are welcome to attend and report on the training programme.
