Tens of Thousands Oppose El Khomri Law in French Demonstrations The Morning Star, London, 15 June 2016 Protesters clashed with police on the streets of Paris yesterday in the latest demonstrations against the hated El Khomri labour law. A total of 20 police and six protesters were injured and 21 people arrested in the clashes involving a minority of the tens of thousands who turned out against the law. The demonstration was called by seven trade unions and student organisations. The EU-dictated legislation raises working-time limits and makes it easier to sack workers. The Socialist Party government was forced to pass the law by decree after parliament rebelled. It is now being debated in the senate. Meanwhile rail workers and taxi drivers were on strike, while 20 per cent of Air France flights were cancelled when pilots walked out in a separate dispute. At the Eiffel Tower, an electronic board read: "Monument closed - national strike."
