They sometimes go by the name "manifest jar" or "classpath jar" or similar.   
Basically, it's an empty jar that just contains a manifest with a CLASSPATH 
entry in it that points to all the real jars.   Thus, you only need to put 
that single jar on the classpath instead of all the jars in /lib.    It makes 
classpath nightmares much more manageable.  Maven can produce these very well 
based on the dependencies in the pom.
