D'oh! Of course! I have done that on the old Yoper when things went wrong - my brain is a bit slow today! As usual, rm /var/lib/rpm/_db* didn't work - so I did the _db* removing manually. This happens on my other Yoper boxes too with Y2.1 and 2.2, so it was no surprise to have to manually remove them. Once I did that and rebuilt the database, all was well. I have done as Seba suggested and installed the python-xml, and smart should now work. The smart --gui fell over with error: Interface 'gtk' not available But there we go :) I guess that is down to a specific gtk version needed? I have pygtk 2.8.4-6 and gtk 1.2.10-8 currently. Thanks for reminding me of the rebuild rpm Tobias - I would have probably come up with the answer about 3am or something and had to leap out of bed to do it!
