I prefer a moderated or well-controlled mailing list. The only Mac forum I read is MacInTouch <http://www.macintouch.com>. As you probably know, readers/posters to MacInTouch are well-informed, and the site is moderated. Nothing gets posted until Ric Ford and staff permit it.
Other forums are hard to tolerate. Consider, for example, most of the threads on the Apple Support Discussions fora. They are filled with people who ask a question, have a reply from someone who says "yea, I know!", which has a reply of "you idiot", with a reply of "wrong discussion thread", which eventually ends in "hit control-command-option-k with your elbow and then push the power key with your other elbow while you change your hard drive. That should fix it." I prefer a moderated or well-controlled mailing list.
