Hi Donald, Your explanation for synching is clear to me, having experienced it with several teachers over the years, especially with Taunpulu Sayadaw (deceased years ago). He left me with what I can only describe as an inner compass that knows the direction in which to go, a homing signal for nibbana which has never failed me in my practice. This came about as the result of this quality I believe we are discussing. The way I describe it is that when we sit in the aura of a powerful yogi, or any very powerful being (he need not be awakened) the tendency is for our subtle body to conform to his or hers. A current is awakened in us, in the same way that a coil with a current running through it can induce an electrical current in another coil along side it. But I would say that synching and transmission are not sequential but develop together. This of course is why the Buddha told us that "holy company is the entirety of the holy life". Even those of us who are not so strong are constantly influencing others around us with our energy and we are being influenced as well. Hence the power of holy company. We are constantly giving and receiving transmission. For this reason we need to learn to give the highest energy and to keep our own inner connection with Dhamma strong and clear. Obviously though, this power to transmit to others and to synchronize them to our inner organization is exponentially greater in the Noble Disciple, in possession of one or another of the holy paths. It is one of the great gifts that they bear for us.
As to the Chan Ding, I would say that there are two ways to understand this (if I have understood you) the mundane way and the "supermundane" or lokattura. In mundane chakra based samadhi, assuming chakras can be actually and properly sensed, one is fusing the mind to it as an object of attention. Wisdom is not very strong in this type of samadhi. This may be good samatha practice, but it does not penetrate reality. If you start with the premise of consciousness and object as separate, and then try to overcome the two-ness by concentration, the resultant experience of unity is conditioned and will disapear along with the samadhi. The second way is hard to speak of, but one discovers one's being as the center of the chakra. For example, one discovers oneself as the silence at the center of sound, the very consciousness that vibrates as hearing; hearing/sound is expression of the silent consciousness that we are. One abides as the source of feeling that is the essence of all feeling, or as the aliveness that is the source of prana at the root of the breath in the heart etc. But in my experience for this door to open, the mind must first emerge into emptiness; this intuition must be stabilized. Usually, in most Buddhist schools that do meditation, as well as in Vedanta, this comes about by tracing the knower, or the knowing back to its source, one experiences "consciousness without and object" or the voidness samadhi. I am not sure if this last part is the same for all, if others can trace their being back to Source by some other chakra. My best guess is yes, otherwise things like bhakti yoga or kundalini processes, or tantra would not be effective. Once this initial "penetration" is achieved, the tendency over time is for the remainder of the mind and subtle body to realign itself along the same "event horizon of consciousness." Sorry to go on so and tire your eyes! Warm best wishes, Daniel --- In [email protected], Jue Miao Jing Ming - 覺å¦ç²¾æ <chan.jmjm@...> wrote: > > Hi Daniel, > > Thank you for your response.
