Hi Mayka,

Yes, I suppose that is so. And therefore, embracing is not something that we
do. I'd just let it be, whether the mind is free or is not free from thinking.

Siska:
That's a very good question.  And the answer is yes and not at once.  If you
want to embrace something and you think: "Oh, here it goes, I'm going to
embrace it..." then there is no embracing either because the
thought intruded and separated you from what is real.   Instead if whatever is
there, you sensed in awareness, being one with it,  live it, stay with it as it
arises, the in and out conscious breathing will the anchor helping you to be
there gentle but firm and solid.  Free from thinking of any kind, then is when
you are embracing.  Embracing is just a word expressing that staying there with
what arises.    There is not other way for you to know but to have the direct
experience of it.

Hi Mayka,

If the object to embrace and I are not separated as you suggested, wouldn't
there be no need to embrace anymore?

Siska:
If you embrace what is there in you and the thinking is involved, then that is
not a real embracing.  Ego is a thought you are having at the moment of
embracing it.  There is no ego when you embrace unless you are separated from
the object you are embracing.  If you have an expectation, that is also a
thought anticipating a future result and that also is not embracing.  When you
embrace something you have to do that with you whole presence on it.  There
shouldn't be any separation gap between what you embrace and yourself.  Let
yourself go in the flow of the present moment.  Be fully present and aware of
that experience.  Be aware of the experience without judgement of anything that
will appear there. Let it flow as it comes.

Hi Mayka,

Yeap, I'm embracing it and not expecting the ego go diminish by staying with my
breathing, or by awareness, not even by embracing it.

It is what it is. It will not be when it is not :-)

Thanks,
Siska

It's OK Siska.  Don't worry too much about it.  It only means that you need to
stay with whatever arises in you in the here and in the now.  Embrace it.  Stay
with it.  The awareness of the in and out breathing will help you to do that.
Let it be as it manifests itself.  It may hurt a little bit staying in that
embracing.  No rush.  be patient.  But that hurt will pass. And in that
continuous process of embracing, taking care of what arises there a world of
wonders will be revealed in you.

Mayka,

You are right. I don't know if I've ever met any. I only know that at most of
the time, I still don't do such kindness.

Are you sure Siska you haven't met any?.  Perhaps you have met and more than
one person like that but you were unable to see any of them.  And at this point
is when the presence of the heart becomes very important.  Amongst other things
in a way the heart are the real eyes of the buddha.

Hi Mayka,

I agree there are people who serve 'selflessly' for the benefit of people.
'Selfless' here is in the sense where the actions are not performed for the
benefit of oneself but others, and nothing is expected in return from people
who receive the kindness. I believe this is what you are saying. And again, I
agree.

On the other hand, unless it is an action of an enlightened person (or in Zen's
words perhaps of Buddha Mind), then there is still 'self' or 'ego' behind these
'selfless' acts. Most people still do an act of kindness with a purpose, for
example, to see others happy. What happen if others are not happy? What happen
if the conditions of people being helped is not improved?

This is not to say that there is absolutely no one, on this earth, who do
kindness just for the sake of doing it, just like eating when hungry and
sleeping when sleepy, without identifying the kindness as something more
special than the act of eating and sleeping. There may be. I just have not met
any.

Siska: They may be a tiny minority left in the world but still there are
people who do things for the wellbeing of life and other human fellows for
nothing.  It's empathy what leads this minority to act in that way.  There also
