Marco,

thanks for the tips.

I am of the old school of thought... My Zen balancers and firewalls are
hardware based, not virtualised.

Zen is balancing 3 SuSE linux web servers running apache, and another 2 SuSE
linux servers running mySQL.

I have cisco 2500 series devices setup for OSPF to provide redundancy paths to
the network

I use 2 Zen boxes running on simple dell workstations i had laying around with
4GB memory, 3 nic adapters a and 250gb hard drives

I use this basically for testing my software apps to ensure they respond and
work well in a farm environment.

Johnny

*picking the right email this time to reply to * lol

Little extra tip:

Try pinging your server atleast 100 - 500 x (look for any downtimes)

If thats all good.. you might wanna check ping + MTU (linux's MTU can
be off sometimes SPECIALLY from linux --> windows in a virtual environment)

Big question would be: are you running a virtual environment? if so..
what Virtual network adapter do you use? (e1000?)

And to what OS is the Loadbalancer pointing? (linux web servers, or
Windows?)

        ping from linux with mtu:

        ping -f -l <size> server-ip

(MTU's generally are set to 1500 by default)

        Regards,

        Marco

you spend a lot of money on a switch in order for it to crap out every so often.

rebooted switch and farm is back up.

sorry for jumping the gun.

yes, I ssh'd to the LB1, then from there i can ping/ssh the real web servers

from LB1 i can also access the internet

i will go reset the switches and reboot the servers, in-case something freaked
them out.

Hi Johnny, like you tell in your mail, looks like a problem between zen and
backends, maybe comunications or other issue.

The error that you report it is the default error message of http profile when
it can't connect to any backend.

Have you tried to connect from zen lb to your backends?

Regards!

Hello,

very very strange. box was running for days, then about 10mins ago i got an
error saying "service unavailable"... i checked and for some reason both real
servers are status'd as red

i restated the service same issue...

i rebooted... same issue

i checked the logs but they show nothing..

I have not worked on or changed anything, as I am working on my web sites.
