It will monitor the backends and take unresponsive ones offline. Of course the MAPI session state will be shot, but it is up to the client to then reconnect. The same goes for SMTP, POP3, and IMAP. A reconnect should be required, but this is up to the client. Outlook 2010 works great for this, 2007 seems to require a restart to successfully reconnect (different LB, but this seems to be an application issue, not an LB issue). Webmail shouldn’t be affected at all, although you may end up back at the login screen.
