thanks in this case its all https traffic(exchange 2013 and outlook 2013) but it seems it doesn’t “kill” the existing connections to that “dead” back end I used this before with kemp that’s how I know it acts differently we had same issue with them and that’s what we enabled(that solved the issue) outlook 2007+ should not need restart at all when one cas fails with connecting to ex 2013 since its stateless(if not using Kerberos authentication) same for owa(in ex 2013) because of the different architecture it shouldn’t even disconnect(you hit back end not front end cas like ex 2010)

Of course the MAPI session state will be shot, but it is up to the client to then reconnect. The same goes for SMTP, POP3, and IMAP. A reconnect should be required, but this is up to the client. Outlook 2010 works great for this, 2007 seems to require a restart to successfully reconnect (different LB, but this seems to be an application issue, not an LB issue). Webmail shouldn’t be affected at all, although you may end up back at the login screen.
