Todd,

I see a "," in your definition. Think its:

env_keep="PYTHONPATH ZENHOME"

Maybe that's the issue?

I think that :env_keep=PYTHONPATH,ZENHOME has to be added after the declratations that allow user zenoss to run specific commands,on the same line.
(I did this, and now get different error messages.)

This is the new error message:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/zenossinst$ $ZENHOME/bin/zenping start
starting...
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/zenoss/Products/ZenStatus/zenping.py", line 22, in ?
import Globals # make zope imports work
ImportError: No module named Globals

Sounds cryptically familiar.

Try adding this line at the top of the file:
    Defaults env_keep = "PYTHONPATH ZENHOME"

I don't have any environment variables in my sudoers file. env_reset is not set, and I'm having trouble finding any documentation telling me how to use env_keep and env_reset. (They are in the man page, and what they do is explained, but how to put them into the /etc/sudoers file is not explained, at least not to my satisfaction. Man page has a deficiency of having zero examples. naughty documentation writers..naughty! But.. not your fault by any stretch of the imagination.)

I'm looking forward to getting up and running so I can see what this will do. I can access the administration interface and such.

If you don't already have a long list of environment variables in /etc/sudoers, you can leave out the keep_env configuration.

What OS and version are you running?

I am getting the same error message as this person when I try to run zenping. I had to add permission to run zenping to the sudoers file. The answer of adding certain things to keep_env seems like an incomplete answer. Where in the sudoers file do you add this option?
Thanks.
