I did think of using ssh tunnel but didn't see much benefit of using ssh 
instead of stunnel other than not having to install another service.

This sounds like easier course but I would want the vpn locked down to a port 
(I don't know a lot about VPN's, but my concern is how VPN might be used to 
bypass router's acl's).

Ok, I'm going to be abit general here. There will be about 3-4 of subnets that 
zenoss will be monitoring with about 5 servers per each, of which the actual 
zenoss machine/server will be sitting in one monitoring the machines in that 
subnet as well.
