I've seen the same thing, every two weeks a part of Zenoss gets stuck it doesn't freeze or become unresponsive, it just gets tired up. almost like it's in a loop but it doesn't eat up CPU or RAM. This last time ZenModeler presented the heatbeat failure, and I noticed the logfile was missing. During this time I could not restart or stop ZenModeler, from the UI. I have no clue where it went or why it suddenly vanished but when I restored the log the Heartbeat error cleared.
