Hmmm, my mail reply to this seems to have gone on walkabout, though it is in 
the mailing list. I'll copy here:

Can you call out to zensendevent, or one of the other APIs? I would 
think you could use some event command based on the filters and event 
mappings you create to then call zensendevent and BAM!

To add some clarity, what I think you could do is create an event mapping / 
transform that filters how you want to a specific event, and then use filters 
in the event command to limit even more. As part of the event command you can 
call pretty much anything / run a shell script or whatever, so you could use 
zensendevent to generate a new event for Zenoss to then process.
