It is typical that most application developers do not understand
messaging, and don't need to.  Any sizeable project that uses
messaging will end up making frameworks and APIs that hide the
messaging and provide some very stupid interface to application
developers.

You can teach mediocre developers to build event-driven systems, given
the right tools, but it takes management support and very coherent
training and follow up.  That is beyond most large firms, which just
want stuff (and people) to work off the shelf.
