Dear Farah,

Life is such as it is--
a convex mirror to one's fantasy.
It has its mirth and bliss;
just look, see
the butterfly flit fancy free.

If dreams are desires
and b equals a,
perforce, good friend, laws of life
demand that a equals b
and desires are dreams
squarely rooted in reality.

And yet! the old question was more than one;
I count four interrogatories
when there are really three.
one suspects syntax is to blame
and poetic licence is rarely free.

Now, dare I suggest the following partial re-write?:

An Old Question (or Two or Three)

Why is life what it is?
Why not what I want it to be,
full of joy, blithe,
blissful and carefree?

Why are dreams desires
And desires dreams?

So I trust, dear poet, you'll forgive and indulge my vanity,

Truly,

Mani Suri

Why dreams are desires?
And desires ; dreams?

....................

Fantasies are clouds,
Hovering above your mind,
Thick and full of promising rain...
Yet when you reach out to grab some,
The winds blow them away,
And you are left standing,
In a burning sun!
