Brute Heart of the City
Brute heart of the city
rains night
a breath of pineapple
and a taste of wine
shines in the tear-awed eye
the perfume of suit activates
the clatter of high-heels
footstep lit pavements
seek shade under skirts
from the sky sinster red
peals ease the escalated danger
windshields pulsate with smiles
a carpet of light takes in
party spills through the blinds
the consumptive roses cough
behind the yellow backs of motels
defeated lampposts show
empty boozebottles
and cigar stubs in rain.
