- to apply yourself to someone else's text, and in the
process see what your general ideas of poetry are.
i just tried to comment on a text, and realised i
could undercut everything i had written about the
text, if i took them as my general opinion about what
poetry should be like. it takes a lot to work at
someone else's text. thanks, jane.
poetry can be like anything i suppose. it can take any
form, different people will write differently. should,
of course.
easier to talk of what resonated in one when one reads
someone else's text, perhaps. at its gentlest it seeks
that connection, that re opening of something closed
in someone else, that reminder. but then i think- of
the number of works where form is played with, shaken,
to give expression.
i suppose poetry is about that - confidence- not
striving nervously towards a existing form, and
getting turgid, but creating form following precise
expression.
then again i think of vivek's mail which had surprised
me- of writing a sonnet as a pleasurable, painful
expercise. and i am confounded again! yes, existing
forms can give pleasure, to find your expression
within those boundaries sounds like a lovely game
i suppose it is too early to talk much of thoughts of
poetry writing- am getting back after a over confident
adolescence which wrote a lot of smart rhyme but
little thought, and having realised that, made the
other road too much my own- of finding form or not
finding it, all the time.
he he, i dont know what this text qualifies at, but i
remembered, i have not given my introduction, so i
suppose this could be it.
