Even though I defended Vidhya's request in an earlier email I do agree with Shivam that we should not clutter up the space reserved for poetry for non-poetry items.
It's a reasonable request given the huge amount of mail it engenders, and by responding I realise I am adding to the clutter.
To justify this I am posting a poem I wrote for my son while he was still fairly small, which continues the theme of family that seems to have arisen spontaneously. At the time we were on holiday in England.
I plan to revise this somewhat. I personally like it, but can't decide whether it is because it recalls a very happy time or because it will have some merit after editing.
OUT ALL DAY
-Can your boy come out to play?
-Hes out already, he went out early,
Over the fields, leaping and shouting
And dancing, with his dog go find him.
I dont know what time he got up,
But the sun called him out of the mists
Of sleep, and he dressed and tiptoed down.
One happy yelp from the dog
Was instantly hushed, and they slipped out
And up into the orchard for tart green apples,
Then over the wall what boy
Ever used a creaky gate? Across the road
And through the wood, singing,
And away down to the sea,
Dancing the dance of morning.
Thats where youll find him.
Go find him for me,
And tell him its time for tea.
