Update on Friday, Feb. 15 coastal / communities GIS (Maine) meeting.
9:30 - 3:30, Craig Brook Hatchery, East Orland, Maine; directions and local
contact given at:
<http://www.spatial.maine.edu/~schroedr/fgdc/020215craigbrook.html>
Networking opportunities for those who arrive early.

The meeting was previously announced to GOMINFOEX and Coast-L lists. It
results from a suggestion at the Dec. 2001 GOMINFOEX action committee
meeting to have a meeting continuing conversations relevant to coastal
community-based GIS, broadly conceived.
If you are planning to attend, please:

1. Bring any maps, brochures, one-page flyers etc. that describe what you
are doing. It is clear that formal meeting time needs to be efficiently
used, and formal presentations will be held short - help others to take
something home of value to maximize the returns of participation.
2. Let me know that you plan to attend - arrangements need to be made for
providing lunch and refreshments, and knowing how many are expected will
help - <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Expected cost for lunch is $6.50,
includes soup, sandwiches and salad.
3. Everyone should be prepared to speak for about 5 minutes with emphasis
on two themes: what are you up to that is particularly exciting and that
others should know about; and any major outstanding questions you have
about GIS, data, sharing, technical problems etc.

The meeting will be modeled somewhat on the open-ended discussion format
that is followed in GOMINFOEX meetings. The more formal presentations will
be early in the day (suggested so far: report on Maine GIS initiative;
status of salmon watershed GIS project; Hancock planning project; FGDC
coastal partnerships update; status of digital library of Gulf / PenBay;
...). In addition to a few short presentations, several questions for open
discussion have been brought forward, including GIS and research in local
schools; future of cross-border data exchange; and broad issues related to
local knowledge, privacy, etc.

A tour of the hatchery will be given during the lunch period. It may work
to have breakout sessions at that time also, with wrapup "where do we go
from here" toward the end of the meeting.

Thanks for Will Hopkins, Torrey Sheafe, Chris Brehme, Seth Barker, Pam
Person, Stephen Engle, Peter Steenstra and Gordon Longsworth for helping
with arrangements.

Please reply with questions or additions to me or to this list.
Looking forward to seeing you on the 15th.
