You're not the only one. In fact, while I'm not exactly talking "enterprise" level here - more usually "IT" and we know what that means - I've seen many RAID systems purchased and set up without any spare disks on hand, or any thought given to what happens next when one fails. Likely this is a combination of low expectations (you can usually blame Windows and everyone will believe it) from the computing services department combined with a lack of feedback ("you're fired") when massive data loss occurs.
