Wes, OpenWGT is the project to re-flash netgear devices with linux busybox or debian variants. Unfortunately, IMO the netgear camp is not as well organized as the Linksys camp: Openwrt.org (I am an openwrt White Russian user).
You can use openwrt to research the Netgear ReadyNAS specs, but I surspect that will be a long road ahead.
