I can testify that being blind is the pits for me. I know there are some people who manage to deal very well with it and people tell me I appear to be a very good sport about it but when it comes right down to it I don't want to stay this way.

Well I did not go through Boot Camp, but rather OCS. But it was not a nightmare and certainly was not representative of life in general. It was challenging and not a lot of fun, but it was manageable.

I guess you were one of those "put together" recruits that didn't get savagely beaten by your drill instructors on more than one occasion. But then I ended up in the hospital twice, once for pneumonia and once for a serious staph infection, and each time got set back to the beginning of boot camp. In effect, I did boot camp three times, six months before I got a leave. Over 5 months without a liberty.

I just suspect that life is more painful for some people than for others. What about Job? Life has been good to me, and there have been moments of great joy. But overall it has been an ordeal because I suffer from terrible, incapacitating depressions. But I it could be worse. I could be blind or in a wheel chair. Still, the only thing that keeps me going is the fact that it won't last forever. Death will bring some relief when it finally comes. All I have to do is endure to the end.
