Even in the Bible, Joseph, and I think Jeremiah spent time imprisoned. And regarding women, I'm not just talking about what notions might have been current. Remember we are talking about scripture. Do you think that God in the previous scriptures really ordained the women be considered men's property?

The nature of law enforcement is quite different. In antiquity there were no
prisons, no police, etc. And women are no longer considered men's property.
