just for information: 2.4.21-0.18mdk works ok for me.

2.4.21-0.18mdk choked too for me, but I couldn't go deeper. To me it seemed a problem of mount or some init script or initrd who get confused on which partition to mount...; I guess that if you could do a rescue disk using the same unworking 2.4.22-21mdk kernel and then, after booting in rescue mode, trying to mount that "offending" partitions you wouldn't get such errors...
