VM testing on PCs produces plenty of insights, it's how we do *most*
testing now. It's perfectly fine for testing bootloader stuff, for
instance, so long as the firmware used by the VM decently approximates
the behaviour of real system firmware (I don't know if that's the case
for 'approved' Apple virtualization things, admittedly).
