Bug#631300: More info
Hi, On Thu, 23 Jun 2011, Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer wrote: Re checked and it doesn't works, as expected ;-) Most probable a bug in our side. I also tried with http_proxy=https://proxy.uns.edu.ar:1280/ without luck. So clearly the sed command is the key to this bug. Can you access any https URL from you normal browser? I would like to know if the fact that the https:// URL doesn't work is the fault of urllib2 or if it's because of your proxy. Bug#631409: Please reconsider the formatting of the package description

As the current description comes from a review in debian-l10n-english, I tend to disagree with the comment on readability and would prefer keeping the description as is. the problem seems to be the slightly experimental code (so called in the source!) in deliver.c If it sees address_count_max == 1 it doesn't try to route multiple messages through a connection even when this would be desirable: here's a patch that seems to work for my usage case, someone who really understands this stuff should probably review it. there may well be more wrong with the experimental code than just this case, and/or my code may break other cases. -- Jasen Betts treshna Enterprises Ltd Tel: +64 3 974 9169 or 0800 894 149 (for Jasen dial ext 204 when the voice starts) Fax: +64 28 894 860 Web: www.treshna.com 267 Madras Street, Christchurch, New Zealand IT Consultancy - Websites - Database development - Computer tech support diff -C5 -r exim4-4.72/src/deliver.c exim4-4.72.fixed/src/deliver.c *** exim4-4.72/src/deliver.c2011-06-24 18:14:45.325698987 +1200 --- exim4-4.72.fixed/src/deliver.c 2011-06-24 18:13:48.913698961 +1200 *** *** 3549,3558 --- 3549,3567 message_max -= continue_sequence - 1; if (message_max 0 new_max address_count_max * message_max) new_max = address_count_max * message_max; address_count_max = new_max; } + else if (address_count_max == 1 remote_max_parallel ==1) + { +if (connection_max_messages = 0) + address_count_max = connection_max_messages; +else + address_count_max = 9; + } + + // /* Pick off all addresses which have the same transport, errors address,

If I save the ooo-document that i am editing it will write the changes in the file but it also will create a new empty file that has the same name with a 0. eg. test.odt -- test0.odt ( has 0 byte ). What is the version of samba on the server? 3.5.6 as in squeeze? Can you reproduce this with another samba server, or with a share located on a Windows machine? Yes, it's version 3.5.6 in squeeze. I tried it on a share exported with windows xp. There it doesn't happen, only on a share exported on my debian squeeze server.
Bug#631470: debhelper: Add --help-sequence to display all commands in a sequences dh(1) runs
Package: debhelper Version: 8.1.6 Severity: wishlist Manual page reads: INTERNALS Each time dh is run, it examines the log, and finds the last logged command that is in the specified sequence. Bug#630906: git-annex completion gone missing
Joey Hess wrote: The basic git-annex completion that was added to partially fix #603503 has gone missing, now zsh can neither complete git anntab, nor can it complete git annex foo somefiltab Just to let you know this didn't fall through the cracks... The 4.3.12 release of zsh includes a (more or less) rewrite of _git (the completion function for git). I guess the guy who did it wasn't aware of git-annex and therefore didn't re-add support for it. I'm not sure what the plan is with respect to adding third-party addons. I guess just adding the old code again would be a feasible solution (and we can certainly do that with the debian package for the time being), but for the long run I'd like to discuss this upstream. Out of curiosity, is there a git-annex completion for bash? And if so, how does the bash crowd handle such third-party addons? Bug#286672: Mail Notification: OpenSSL+GPL on Debian
Thanks for raising this issue. On Fri, Jun 24, 2011 at 04:47:56PM +1200, Dan Wallis wrote: First off, apologies if I'm out of place in sending you this, or if it's already been discussed here before. I did search the archives [0], but didn't see any mention of this particular suggestion. As I understand things, there's currently a stalemate between the Debian policy, and the package author. I can see in the Ubuntu bug report [1] that there is what appears to be a well-written solution, with which the package author agrees, in comment #86 [2]. I am not a lawyer however, so would like to get the go-ahead from debian-legal. Does this logic seem sound from a legal point-of-view? Following on with that idea, would something as simple as the attached patch be sufficient to resolve this stalemate? If not, could you perhaps suggest suitable wording? No, it would not. Indicating in user-facing documentation that it is recommended to use OpenSSL is not equivalent to granting distributors permission to distribute binaries linked with OpenSSL as part of an OS. However, in reading the bug log my understanding is the upstream author's position is that the GPL does not require dynamically-linked libraries to be distributed under the same license terms. I don't believe this is an accurate interpretation of the GPL as written, but if Jean-Yves is the sole copyright holder of the work, then this is a clarification of the intended license, which I believe is sufficient for Debian's purposes. If there are other copyright holders, we would need to get similar clarification of intent, or an OpenSSL linking exception, from each of them. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#631477: [debcommit] Be smart as to how to tag a repository
Package: devscripts Version: 2.11.0 Severity: wishlist File: /usr/bin/debcommit -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, debcommit -r is great as it integrates well into other uses of debcommit. But when the source is maintained using a VCS helper such as git-buildpackage or git-dpm, it is unfortunate that it creates different tags than these. Also, those may add more tags, e.g. for the corresponding patched state. Hence, if debcommit could find out whether the source is managed by git-buildpackage (e.g. if debian/.gbp.conf is present) or by git-dpm (in which case debian/.git-dpm will be present) and then use the appropriate tool to tag the release, that would be very nice. Bug#563030: Possible with some JavaScript
Hi, It would be nice if both: bugs.debian.org/558234 and bugs.debian.org/#558234 worked. I realise that '#' is a fragment identifer in URLs but sometimes copying and pasting from a changelog includes the '#', this would make things nicer. bugs.debian.org/#558234 redirects to http://www.debian.org/Bugs/#558234. If that static web page would contain a JavaScript snipped that checks if the document.hash is a number, that could redirect to bugs.debian.org/558234. It’s a work-around, but I don’t see any problem with it. CC’ing the web team, they might be in a position to implement this. Bug#631289: other products...
the issue seems to exist with other distros and routers, too. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=617841sid=60cca64962f1b26b474f3a89c2963ab6 I agree that the problem lies with the routers, since they shouldn't break the network operation whatever a connected client does or doesnt. However, if a lot of devices have that problem, it's at least worth investigating it, and finding a way to avoid system breakdowns until the router firmwares are fixed. As said, with mine it helps to limit the networking speed to WLAN-g. Clearly, it's not a debian problem at least. Bug#631367: phpmyadmin: sql error reporting is terse to the point of uselessness
Hi Dne Thu, 23 Jun 2011 11:39:38 +0100 (BST) sam penny xanthrax...@yahoo.co.uk napsal(a): I've just upgraded from 3.4.1-1 to 3.4.2-1 as part of my approximately daily dist-upgrade. When I type in a sql query in the SQL tab, if there is an error, the message consists of only an error number[1], whereas previously it included a descriptive error message including where in the query the error was detected[2]. I have seen some error messages come through on occasion, but I've not spotted any pattern to when they do, even the same message might appear on one occasion, but not another. Possibly, the bug is in php5-mysql which was also upgraded at the same time (from 5.3.3-7+squeeze1 to 5.3.6-12) As there are no changes in relevant code in phpMyAdmin, I doubt it is the real cause. I tried to reproduce the issue locally and on phpMyAdmin's demo server[1] (running Debian unstable), but I failed in both cases, is there something special steps to reproduce it? Bug#631480: Generate short URLs/links for the standard bug view
Hi. Le vendredi 24 juin 2011 à 11:05 +0200, Joachim Breitner a écrit : most of the time, people are going to look at and to link at URLs like http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=123456 e.g. the plain bug view without any options. This is also what http://bugs.debian.org/123456 redirects to. I think it would be much nicer if a) The redirect is done internal, e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/123456 will stay in the URL line, making it more likely that people will use that when they want to link to a certain bug. and maybe even b) The BTS also generates the short version version everywhere where it links to a bug without further option. Not a great deal, but makes the BTS a more aesthetic and slicker place to be :-) +1 It also helps matching discussions in other bugtrackers (forums, lists, etc.) where a Debian bug is referred to. Taking it a step further, it also makes the BTS more compliant with the Linked Data approach (aka Semantic Web), where there URIs of bugs could become unique identifiers for these bugs, should they be referred to from elsewhere (/Linked/ data). For instance (turtle syntax for RDF predicates) http://bugs.debian.org/123456 debbugs:forwaded http://mybugsilla.example.com/987654 would then be much more manageable by SemWeb aware applications, if that short url was standard/default. Same stands for bugzilla, in this case, btw, which suffers same problems. Let me add that content-negociation on the Accept: header with respect to the expected format for output of these URLs (either HTML for humans as of now, or RDF for machines) would be a plus, also. See http://bugs.debian.org/565513 which deals with other aspects of that RDF/Linked Data problem, as OSLC-CM is a protocol which mandates REST and RDF/Linked Data principles. Hope this helps. Bug#631355: dstat: provide mem info in default output
On Thu, 23 Jun 2011, Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote: Thank you for maintaining dstat. It would be convenient if dstat included memory information in default output. I've attached the patch. It would be convenient if patched would be send through upstream's github interface, so that discussions can be held there as well :-) That said, the memory output is wide and changes less often than the other default dstat plugins shown. So it was a deliberate decision to remove the memory output from the default dstat output in order to make it fit in 80 columns width terminals. It's very easy to add internal plugins, if you do dstat -am, you basically have the output you like. (The default, also -a, is the same as -cdnpy as documented in the man-page). Bug#630042: probably about 25% of all G4 images are not decodable
I have confirmed the bug and found a correct fix to it from upstream's CVS. I have locally built tiff-3.9.4-5+squeeze3 and confirmed that it can decode all the images attached to this bug report. I have coordinated upload with the security team and will be uploading this morning. If you'd like, I can make the source packages available to you immediately (or as soon as I see your message) for you to build yourself. Alternatively, you can downgrade to tiff-3.9.4-5 and wait for tiff-3.9.4-5+squeeze3 to appear in security updates to upgrade again. Bug#631487: grub-imageboot: please adapt or document seemingly random usage of the option raw
Package: grub-imageboot Severity: wishlist Currently, there is only one google hit for „rawimg linux16” (a copy of grub-imageboot's extracted source code) and all documentation I was able to find, including your blog entry, uses raw instead. Thus, I assume the below quoted line is just a typo. | test -z $IMAGEOPTS IMAGEOPTS=rawimg Please undo this typo in bin/60_grub-imageboot and also adapt etc/grub-imageboot accordingly if I'm right. grub-imageboot uses iso as option to boot .iso files and it does not use raw. To be able to use an iso image containing a firmware upgrade tool, I needed to add raw manually, so using both is at least not always wrong. The type of .img files is automatically determined by memdisk. Depending on the size of the file, it is either detected as floppy image or as harddisk image. To let the user decide which type of image the file is, either floppy or harddisk would need to be added as option, similar to iso which is used for .iso files. This could be implemented by adding new file name extensions .floppy and .harddisk, i.e., an image file asdf.floppy would be booted as floppy image, asdf.harddisk would be booted as harddisk image and how to boot asdf.img would be automatically determined by memdisk. As described above, grub-imageboot does not add (as I would have expected) the type of the image as option for .img files, but instead adds an option (raw) that tells memdisk how to enter protected mode. I don't understand why raw is passed to harddisk and floppy images by default, but not to iso images. If there is a reason to do so, please document it, otherwise please adapt the behaviour. Besides raw, there are other options that might be needed to boot some images on specific computers (see /usr/share/doc/syslinux/memdisk.txt.gz for details). If an option is required to boot image A but must not be used to be able to boot image B, there is currently no way to tell grub-imageboot to do so. Two ways to make grub-imageboot more configurable that come to my mind are: * read options for ${imagefile} from ${imagefile}.config if it exists * let the users add additional file name extensions with custom options in /etc/default/grub-imageboot, e.g., .raw-hdd, which uses raw and harddisk as options The latter could be implemented like this: | set -e | | . /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib | | imageboot_add_extension() { | ... | } | | IMAGES=/boot/images | | if [ -e /etc/default/grub-imageboot ] | then | . /etc/default/grub-imageboot | fi | | ... Users could use imageboot_add_extension in /etc/default/grub-imageboot to add custom extensions. I don't have an idea how imageboot_add_extension would look like exactly yet, though. Bug#631488: grub-imageboot: please do not load default values for configuration variables that have been set to an empty string
Package: grub-imageboot Severity: wishlist If a user sets IMAGEOPTS to an empty string, grub-imageboot sets it to the default value rawimg. I think if a user decides to explicitly set a configuration variable to any value, this decision should be respected. Bug#631486: grub-imageboot: please mention ability to boot harddisk images in documentation

Please consider mentioning this ability in the package's description. | Description: boot iso and floppy images with grub2 and syslinux memdisk Adding this to above quoted short description would make it rather long, but maybe you have an idea how this could be done. If you don't, just adapting the long description should suffice, e.g.: | This package installs a grub hook which integrates iso, harddisk and | floppy images into the grub menu. (I have no idea if ISO image is more commonly used than iso image) If you adapt the description anyway, please also add the trailing period to it. The final paragraph currently is: | memdisk can't boot every image see | http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/MEMDISK for its limitations ... but it should be: | memdisk can't boot every image see | http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/MEMDISK for its limitations. debian/README.Debian: = The first two paragraphs of debian/README.Debian just mention floppy and iso images, please also mention hard disk images there. Bug#631477: [debcommit] Be smart as to how to tag a repository
On Fri, Jun 24, 2011 at 10:54:43AM +0200, Joachim Breitner wrote: debcommit -r is great as it integrates well into other uses of debcommit. Bug#631498: e2fsprogs: filefrag should report adjacent extents as one
Package: e2fsprogs Version: 1.41.12-4 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch When filefrag uses FIEMAP ioctl its logic differs for ordinary and verbose (-v) modes. ext4 returns extent on every 32768 block so on large files it is possible that `filefrag large-file' tells about 4 extents while `filefrag -v large-file' finds only one. Also when I tried to use generic_block_fiemap function to add FIEMAP for reiserfs, every block was reported as a new extent resulting in thousands extents for continuous files. I fail to see how not building this package fixes the bug. For me, not having the sdbc driver makes the whole Base functionality useless as the jdbc driver is way (10x) to slow and the odbc driver only produces errors. Part of the necessary infrastructure is a symbolic link from /etc/resolv.conf to /etc/resolvconf/ run/resolv.conf. If you choose this option then this link will be created; the existing /etc/resolv.conf file will be preserved as /etc/resolvconf/ resolv.conf.d/original, and will be restored if this package is removed. msgstr Het resolvconf-pakket bevat de infrastructuur om automatisch bijwerken van het resolver-configuratiebestand mogelijk te maken. #. Type: boolean #. Description #: ../templates:2001 msgid Declining this option will prevent future installations from recreating the symbolic link and therefore the resolver configuration file will not be dynamically updated. Dynamic updating can then be activated following instructions in the README file. msgstr Het weigeren van deze optie voorkomt dat toekomstige installaties de symbolische koppeling terug aanmaken; bijgevolg zal het resolver- configuratiebestand niet dynamisch worden bijgewerkt. Bug#631477: [debcommit] Be smart as to how to tag a repository

Hence, if debcommit could find out whether the source is managed by git-buildpackage (e.g. if debian/.gbp.conf is present) or by git-dpm (in which case debian/.git-dpm will be present) and then use the appropriate tool to tag the release, that would be very nice.
