Re: [GNC] Import matching

2024-04-23 Thread Phyllis Bruce
Gyle, this import problem was the subject of my email a little while ago.
In my case, not so much the need for a split transaction as a method to
identify the specific transfer account needed and then the ability to add
it to the import information. My work around is to import the data file,
hit finish, and deal with the imbalances. Not at all elegant but I only
have to look up the information one time. Then I reconcile with my
statement.

Liz suggested setting up a scheduled transaction with the proper number of
splits and filling them in when the bill was received. She does that for
her utility bills.

I have a few regular transactions that have the same amount but GNU has not
learned which is which ( which $10 belongs to which subscription,
for example.) I thought the amount and usual date of the transaction could
be enough. If it is a specific amount GNU wants to associate it with the
first time that amount was imported (I think)

I use QFX on a Windows 11 pc and GNUcash Version 4.13, I was seeing so much
chatter about the newer versions that I've held off updating.

Regards,
Phyllis B

2024-04-23 Thread Gyle McCollam
Alan,
I beg to differ. Amazon did split my order into 2 separate orders, each with
its own invoice. However, that wasn't my issue. My issue was GNC not matching
the separate transactions on import. I resolved it by manually matching the
transactions when reconciling and not importing those 2 transactions.

Amazon doesn't split it into multiple invoices, but multiple payments per
invoice. When you go into Amazon and go to Your Orders, click the *show
invoice* link. At the bottom it will show you the payment break down (taxes,
gift card, each CC payment made etc)

GNC will process this just fine. Just apply each CC payment to the appropriate
open invoice.

Re: [GNC] Import matching

2024-04-23 Thread Gyle McCollam
David,
1st thanks for the reply.

When you ask for more information, I assume you are asking for OS and version?
If so, Windows11 and at the time probably GNUCash 5.5, but currently 5.6.

I seem to have the issue with CSV import, more than ODX/QFX imports. The
original post, to which you replied, was on 3/11. When I did the next CSV
import on 4/11 it worked better. Good thing most of my imports are OFX/QFX as
it seems to work a lot better. However, I would think the matching process
would work the same, even using the same coding, regardless of the import type.

As for the Amazon splitting one order into 2 invoices, I understand that
GNUCash couldn't match that and I didn't expect it to. That is why I split my
GNUCash entry into 2 entries, each matching one of the import values. GNUCash
still wouldn't match the 2 import values to the 2 GNUCash transactions.

Overall, the matching process works well for OFX/QFX most of the time with only
occasional hiccups. CVS imports are more problematic, but still save time. I
also agree, that some institutions matching are worse than others.

Thaks again for your time.

Please provide more information. Not only have the import functions changed
over recent releases, but there is more than one type.

Even without that information, I am sure that GnuCash cannot figure out how
Amazon split one transaction into two. You would have to manually check those

been perfect and I plan on taking extra time to manually match or even just
delete duplicates later for some transactions. Results with some banks or

Re: [GNC] Import matching

2024-04-23 Thread Alan Johnson via gnucash-user
For Amazon, your best bet is to use the vendor functions.
,
You can create the total invoice in GNC and then apply the payments to the
invoice (which, on  orders with many items may be 3-4 payments).

Alternatively, you have to do janky things with placeholder transactions.
