Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SSH via cyberduck help

2012-08-21 Thread mhardyman

Thanks, it does seem to be a Cyberduck issue. I have now successfully
managed to ssh via scp using an android phone application (andftp).

Thanks for your help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Can you make Logitech Media Server upsample to 176/24 or 192/24?

2012-08-21 Thread Rosewind

Sox seems the way to go.

YEP. I think I finally found something I can use, so will read up on
this thread + sox-documentation:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?82672-Cant-get-SoX-upsampling-to-work-pulling-my-hair-out-Numpties-Guide-please/page5

Now, since I have a DAC that can only lock onto 176/24 (and not 192/24),
I may want to have SoX upsample to two different sample rates:

44/16 + 88/24 --- 176/24

48/24 to 96/24 (unless I get 192/24) to work)

Phil Leigh is the man it seems.

Best wishes,
Peter

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Automatic brightness control

2012-08-21 Thread 505

A new version has been uploaded to the beta repository. This has the
extra option to disable the gradually decrease in brightness to safe the
screen. You can test this version by adding the beta repository
(http://server.vijge.net/static/squeezebox/repo-beta.xml). You first
need to uninstall the current version, then install the beta version.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Just Loaded MOG......WOW !.......Question on what this actually streams to the SBT...

2012-08-21 Thread Cut-Throat

I think MOG may be the best source I've ever had for music. If I would
have known about this, I think I may have just skipped ripping my CDs. I
now have over 1 million Albums in the cloud. All for $5 a month for my
Touch. MOG streams a 320 kbps and sounds as good as my ripped CDs in
lossless. They have quite a collection of quality re-mastered albums
too.

My question is; Does the Touch play the mp3 files directly or is there
a conversion taking place on the touch? I have applied the soundcheck
mods and am wondering the best way to handle MOG. I may never play
anything else with the Touch!

(The sound you hear is that of Cut-Throat's audiophile stripes being
ripped from his uniform.)

You hear no difference between high bitrate Mp3 and lossless, yet you
bother with software tweaks?

The Touch plays Mp3 natively. When LMS/Squeezebox does do some type of
transcoding, it's always done by the server.

It plays them directly. No conversion. I like MOG too and use it. but I
have thousands of CDs that are not available in MOG.

 .

It doesn't matter how high the bitrate is if it is a poorer quality
recording to begin with. MOG has some very high quality recordings.

I have lossless recordings that were made in the 1970's that are so bad
that they are not listenable on my High Resolution Horn and SET amp
System.

I never had 'audiophile stripes', and I don't listen to 'Specs', I
listen to music. I have plenty of Crap Lossless recordings that are far
worse than the recordings from MOG's MP3.

You need to spend a little time researching on how your recordings were
made in the first place, not at how many bits that were stored and
streamed to your stereo. You will find that it most cases it is
irrelevant.

Why would anyone need to do that? They either sound good or they don't.

Hi Peter,

I tried over a long period of time to get Inguz working on my NAS but
always failed. The web GUI and touch GUI appeared to function but the
sound output never altered in any way.

In the end I moved over to using a windows 7 based system and that works
a treat.

Indeed, I hadn't thought of that.
Now if by setting another alarm, the first one is cancelled, then

 Will give it a try.

ok I set 3 alarms 2 minutes apart - radio station 1, radio station 2 and
music tone.
It changed from one to the other station with a beep and pause in
between. unfortunately the third alarm using a music tone went on ad
nauseum until I switched it off so this can't be used as an off
alarm.

I will experiment with some radio stations that don't play, and could
use these as off alarms.

or create a short mp3 file that has whatever sound and/or silence that
you want. Save it as a favorite and make it your third alarm.

Finally a use for those annoying silent tracks that are on some albums
between the main album and the bonus tracks! Try A Quiet Moment
from Peter Gabriel's New Blood album.
