[Bug 1923380] Re: virt-viewer crashes in Wayland session - kvm-qemu

2022-04-24 Thread tea for one
Following the release of Ubuntu 22.04, I can confirm that virt-viewer now does
not crash in a Wayland session. Details as follows:-
Ununtu 22.04
Gnome Shell 42.0
Virt-viewer 7.0-2build2 (jammy)
qemu-system-x86 1:6.2+dfsg-2ubuntu6 (jammy)
Virtual Machine Manager 4.0.0

[Bug 1766577] Re: 4.15.0-15 mdadm: CREATE group disk not found

2021-08-25 Thread Green Tea
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1765232 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1765232

Is this issue possible to happen on Ubuntu 16.04.06, 4.15.0-45 kernel?
I saw a very similar log as #1

The boot hangs as #1, but not always happened, after reboot it can
successfully boot into OS.

I am not doing any raid, keep mdadm config/setting default.

[Bug 1923380] [NEW] virt-viewer crashes in Wayland session - kvm-qemu

2021-04-11 Thread tea for one
Public bug reported:

Terminal output as follows:-

(virt-viewer:17150): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 22:30:44.680:
gdk_wayland_window_set_dbus_properties_libgtk_only: assertion
'GDK_IS_WAYLAND_WINDOW (window)' failed
Killed

I expected virt-viewer to display the grapical console of my vm, but it
crashed as indicated by the terminal output.

Ubuntu 20.04
Gnome Shell 3.36.7
virt-viewer 7.0-2build1
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64
virtual machine manager 2.2.1

Using the built in graphical console of virtual machine manager in a
wayland session, the display is fine but full screen display is missing,
hence the requirement for virt-viewer.

Virt-viewer is perfect in an X11 session

[Bug 1884445] Re: gnome-software does not always offer deb packages

2020-06-22 Thread tea for one
If I click on Inkscape in Editor's Picks, I am only offered snap
packages.

However, if I enter the Graphics and Photography section, I can locate
the Inkscape deb package.

I would be surprised if this is deliberate behaviour.

It must be particularly baffling for new users who lack the knowledge of
alternative package formats.

[Bug 1884445] [NEW] gnome-software does not always offer deb packages

2020-06-21 Thread tea for one
Public bug reported:

Distro: Ubuntu 20.04
Gnome: 3.36.2

gnome-software 3.36.0-0ubuntu3
gnome-software-common 3.36.0-0ubuntu3
gnome-software-plugin-snap 3.36.0-0ubuntu3

When I select an application (e.g. Inkscape) I expect to see both snap
packages and deb packages.

Gnome-software for Inkscape only offered 3 versions of snap packages:-

latest/stable 1.0-6e3e5246a0-2020-05-07
latest/candidate1.0-5426eaae79-2020-06-20
latest/edge 1.1-dev-2e60fb975d-2020-06-03

The deb package for Inkscape 0.92.5-1ubuntu1.1 was not offered.

I do not know if this is only Inkscape or whether this behaviour
affects other applications.

I would think that it would be better for gnome-software to suggest
stable packages (whether snap or deb) before listing candidate and edge
snaps.

Temporarily, I have removed gnome-software-plugin-snap so that I can see
all the deb offerings for packages that interest me.

I can re-install the snap plugin when I may need a certain snap package.

[Bug 1571227] Re: Unable to arrive at Desktop using gdm3

2016-04-22 Thread tea for one
Hello Tim

Thank you for your reply and advice.

Yes, I did install gnome-shell manually via synaptic, I have done this
at least half a dozen times with vanilla Ubuntu (inc Unity) 12.04 and
14.04.

Previously, I have never encountered a problem.

The instruction "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop^" would
require me to download 222MB of software and I have declined to do this
at the moment.

It seems a huge download to possibly fix one package?

For the time being, I am going to stay with lightdm but I may try your
suggestion next week.

Thanks again for your perseverance.

Kind regards

Hello Tim
When I run journalctl after a successful boot, the report only generates 23
lines from the successful boot.
Therefore, it seems that I am performing this operation incorrectly or at the
wrong time.

If I run it after a failed boot, I do not know how to save it from a TTY.
I will try and send a complete report if you can send me some extra
instructions.
I am happy to break this installation of Ubuntu because it is not my production
machine.
Cheers

hey tea for one,
  that log is incomplete

you need to do something like
`journalctl > journal.log`
and then attach that (it will be thousands of lines)

as an aside some of the earlier intel GPU's work better when booted with
"nomodeset" kernel param.

Re: [Bug 1571227] Re: Unable to arrive at Desktop using gdm3

2016-04-17 Thread tea for one
Good morning Tim
Today (Sunday 17 April), I reproduced the boot difficulty and this is what
happened:-
gdm3 did not reach the graphical log in (greeter) - as I reported via launchpad
on 16 April.

The last line of the wall of text was "[ OK ] Started Gnome Display
Managerand deal with any system changes"
The PC stopped there and after approx 3-4 minutes, I managed to open a terminal
with Ctrl Alt F2 and successfully changed from gdm3 to Lightdm.
Subsequent reboot with Lightdm was OK.
Yesterday, I was unable to fix this via the grub menu Recovery - today I
remembered the Ctrl Alt F2 path to a terminal.
To be honest, I have had so few problems with Ubuntu and Gnome 2 and 3 since
2007 that my repair skills are very rusty.

My hardware is approx 5 years old as follows:-
Intel Q45/Q43 graphicsPentium Dual Core CPU E5400Intel motherboard DQ45EK
Report attached as requested.
I hope it is helpful.
Kind regards
Mark

I was unable to change the log-in greeter using the Ubuntu recovery
system.

Following an internet search, I added an instruction to the grub entry
to allow me to boot directly into a bash command shell to reconfigure
and reboot with lightdm.

Instruction is:- "add the following to the end of the line starting with
/boot/vmlinuz…
–add rw init=/bin/bash"
