[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813566] Re: Greeter not displayed correctly on multi monitor setup
I finally got a screenshot! On the third screen you can see almost my complete first screen desktop. And on the fourth screen you can see an ajax-loader.gif with all it's animation frames. Is this coming from arbitrary graphics memory? It sounds more and more like a big security issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 773415] Re: Natty: Screen brightness set to minimum and brightness controls not working
Hi Bryce, I think that the screen brightness problem is still there in Ubuntu Oneiric. I tested the 64 bits version of Ubuntu 11.10 Beta 2, as well. But, nothing yet; It still was this same problem there. Hence I went back to Ubuntu (but, Maverick) after I learned that Pardus has quite few applications on its repositories yet and, moreover, it hasn't 32bits support for the 64bits version (and an annoying restart-required or log- out/log-in required for any changes on the menu to appear after programs installation of its edition). I don't know whether it has something to do with the screen brightness bug in -many- laptops, but Phoronix has found out other power problems on latest Linux kernels: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=articleitem=linux_31_power_regressnum=1 All of these seem to be more than noticeable problems arising on Linux kernels lately. Why? I don't know, of course, but it dents Linux reputation of trustable, rock-solid OS. Perhaps, it would be better to secure current features before adding so quickly new ones to the kernel. But this is just my humble opinion. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879838] [NEW] Keyboard Layout Germany Neo 2: Mod4 does not work if used as secondary keyboard layout
You have been subscribed to a public bug: If Neo 2 is used as secondary keyboard layout, Layer 4 and 6 (that is, Mod4) don't work. To reproduce this bug, do the following: 1: Neo 2 as primary keyboard layout - start gnome-keyboard-properties - Click Add... - Select Country: Germany and Variants: Germany Neo 2 - Select Germany Neo 2 and move it to the top of the list. Try to use Neo Layer 4 or 6. E.g. type the number 4 which is Mod4 and n in Neo ( and j in standard German QWERTZ layout) or move the cursor left using Mod4 and i (AltGr and s in QWERTZ layot). Works as expected. 2: Neo as secondary layout - Now add Germany Eliminate dead keys to the list and move it to the top - Use Neo 2 as secondary layout - Click Options and select Scroll lock (or any other) as Key(s) to change layout Now switch to Neo using the selected key and try to type 4 or move the curser as above. Instead of Neo Layer 4 or 6 you will have Layer 1/3 (that is, you will be typing an n instead of a 4 and an i instead of moving the cursor left). Choosing other keys for layout change or turning the compose key on/off does not change anything. Neither does applying Neo 2 as primary layout system wide and using Germany Eliminate dead keys with Neo 2 as a secondary keyboard layout as local user. Applying the patch suggested on neo-layout.org for a similar problem (http://wiki.neo-layout.org/ticket/174) does not have any effect. I restarted and entered Gnome Shell, which was falling back in the fallback mode and had some strange resolution 6. I unninstalled the Catalyst driver according to the procedure described therein 7. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725434] Re: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL
I know this is old and most of you must be running 11.10 now, but I just installed 11.04 and I'm having this problem. The last version of libcairo2 in the repos is 1.11.3, which gives me a ram usage about 1.5Gb just after login. I've forced version 1.10.2 and everything is fine now, ram under 500Mb. Another problem I noticed is some apps don't close properly with the latest libcairo2. I have a transparent gnome-terminal set as desktop background and if I close it (with right click, exit command, or even xkill) the process remains in top using ram). Also that prevents me from logout or reboot the system (it keeps telling me than some apps refuse to close). Don't know how is this related to the graphic drivers but forcing the older libcairo2 solved it. If somebody is still taking care of this bug, can you tell me if there is a more stable solution other than maintain an older package frozen? Argh... My previous comment was *not true*. The problem is more intricate and the option TripleBuffer has no effect. Under certain combination of suspending to RAM and using a docking station, the external screen is flickering/flashing. Unfortunately, It is difficult to reproduce in a deterministic way. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 890438] [NEW] Wrong keyboard layout switching order when using more than two layouts
Public bug reported: I'm using three keyboard layouts in Kubuntu 11.10 that installed in following order: 1) English (US); 2) Russian; 3) Ukrainian I found that several keyboard combinations to switch layouts has issues that makes working with system, especially with texts, very uncomfortable. The main issue is that switching procedure differs from manner in which keyboard layout installed but there are some other issues too. Next I'm describing in detail all the combinations and found issues. Alt + Caps Lock – with Right Alt + Caps Lock it stops switching on last layout – UA. Alt + Ctrl — 1) with Left Alt + Left Ctrl is wrong switching order (US-UA-RU); 2) with Right Alt + Right Ctrl is right switching order but it stops switching on last layout - UA Alt + Shift — 1) with Left Alt+ Left Shift is wrong switching order (US-UA-RU); 2) with Right Alt + Right Shift is right switching order but it stops switching on last layout – UA. Alt + Space – with Right Alt + Space it stops switching on last layout – UA. Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout) – Shift+Caps Lock switching to RU but must to UA as UA is the last layout. Ctrl + Shift – with Left Ctrl+ Left Shift and with Right Ctrl + Left Shift is wrong switching order (US-UA-RU) Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout) – Right Ctrl switching to RU, but must to UA, as UA is the last layout. Both Alt`s – not works if first Left Alt and then Right Alt pressed (if first pressed Right Alt and then Left Alt - it works) Both Ctrl`s – not works if first Left Ctrl and then Right Ctrl pressed (if first pressed Right Ctrl and then Left Ctrl - it works) Both Shift's – wrong order if first right Shift pressed and than left Shift (US-UA-RU) (if first left Shift pressed and than right – right order) Right Alt – it stops switching on last layout – UA. Ctrl+Alt+K. This combination is not working at all. When I press it, the list of layouts, that we can see clicking by right mouse button, changes the view like in picture in attachment (layout.png). ** Affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890438 Title: Wrong keyboard layout switching order when using more than two layouts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/890438/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507062] Re: synaptic assert failure: synaptic: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.
Eliah, thanks for the analysis you've done, that's quite helpful. You mention that the bug you encountered is almost certainly a dupe of this one, however looking at both bug 876799 and bug 887189, I'm not immediately spotting clear evidence that it is indeed a dupe. Would you mind elaborating on how you're determining it? From the stacktraces on your bug reports, it looks like the only thing in common is the _kernel_vsyscall line, but that could mean anything. What really must match in your backtrace for it to be a dupe is this bit: #3 0x05cf3718 in *__GI___assert_fail (assertion=0x16927e5 ret != inval_id, file=0x16927a9 ../../src/xcb_io.c, line=385, function=0x1692964 _XAllocID) at assert.c:81 buf = 0x960c538 synaptic: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.\n I suspect the Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed. error message should show up in one of your logs (probably .xsession-errors, but also check /var/log/lightdm/* and /var/log/Xorg.0.log). What are the brand/model of mouse being plugged into the KVM? Is the keyboard plugged into the KVM a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000? Also, what's the brand/model of the USB KVM itself? Yes, that's the correct keyboard model. The KVM is an off-brand unit that reports itself as a Cypress TetraHub in lsusb - but that shouldn't be relevant, the KVM works fine and the mouse and keyboard endpoints are being correctly exposed. It's only X that's failing to pick up the devices. The mouse is, as above, a Logitech optical mouse. I'm interpreting from your wording that this is a regression and the laptop with the KVM worked properly in Ubuntu at some point in the past? What has changed on your system since that time? kernel 3.0 vs. 3.1 maybe? It worked reliably under oneiric. I'm now running precise, which is where I've seen the failure. I have no reason to believe it's tied to kernel version at all - note that the failure to pick up the devices occurred during an X session in which the keyboard and mouse previously *had* been picked up just fine. And since filing this bug report, a subsequent unplug/replug has resulted in the keyboard being picked up reliably again, but the mouse is still not being seen by X (but is being seen by the kernel). So it's not even consistent with this version of the X packages. I've left this X session running for debugging in spite of the inconvenience of not having my external mouse, because I fully expect that restarting will cause the bug to be unreproducible again. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs
I've seen this problem in Kubuntu with xterms in kde4 just doing ls in a fairly full directory (25 lines of ls output in 4 columns). I'm using Noveau drivers too. My xterm background is white. Sometimes the text in the top few rows is just gone, and the lost area appears to be a rectangular block below the previous prompt. Sometimes some lower bit of the last missing row is still there. If I scroll again, the lines are fixed, or if I select the area, the correct text appears and remains visible after the selection goes away. I did not see this issue on natty. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861268 Title: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/861268/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507062] Re: synaptic assert failure: synaptic: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.
Fwiw, the code in question where the assert is being hit is: static const XID inval_id = ~0UL; /* _XAllocID - resource ID allocation routine. */ XID _XAllocID(Display *dpy) { XID ret = dpy-xcb-next_xid; assert (ret != inval_id); dpy-xcb-next_xid = inval_id; _XSetPrivSyncFunction(dpy); return ret; } So it looks like cairo is calling into X holding an invalid X id, and this trips the assert. libx11 is certainly catching the error, but might not be the root cause of the problem. The question is why does dpy-xcb hold an invalid next_xid - backtraces aren't going to help answer that, I think it'll need some deeper examination of the execution flow either in gdb or with printf's sprinkled in strategic places. Alternatively, looking at cairo-1.8.8/src/cairo-xlib-surface.c:155 might turn up something as to why the Display object has invalid xids in it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507062 Title: synaptic assert failure: synaptic: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877731] Re: GPU LOCKUP after starting EOG on q35 chipset (gma 3100) in Unity3D
I can confirm that the gpu lockup only occures on my intel machine. I've test it on nvidia and ati and there are no problems so far. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726033] Re: does not display icons until hovered
We still have the mention of this bug in Nux source code and the fix that goes with it. To make a test in Nux, I would have to remove the hack so that upstream can see the bug happen without the fix. Even so, I am not sure if all the conditions will be there for the bug to be reproducible outside of Unity, but it is worth a try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726033 Title: does not display icons until hovered To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/726033/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
