[videoblogging] Rode Video Mic
I've been using the Rode Video Mic on my Canon HV20 for a few weeks now and I really like it. Yesterday it dawned on me that because it supplies it's own power (via 9v battery) and has a 1/8 mini plug I could probably use it as a computer mic too. So I plugged it into my MacBook Pro and found it works great for recording a voice over or a screencast. Thought that was a cool tip. - Verdi -- http://michaelverdi.com http://freevlog.org http://nscape.tv

Hello, What you are looking for is usually called Video on Demand... and is often shortened to VOD. Although the search engines are quote spammed when you search for any of those terms. But you might find something. My advice for you would be to try to avoid licensing costs or lock-in for whatever you use. You could go with a the free and open source WordPress http://wordpress.org/ software to get what you want -- to get your turnkey system. (NOTE... I'm talking about the WordPress software found at http://wordpress.org/ ... not the free hosting site http://wordpress.com/ ) You'd need a custom WordPress plugin (to take care of handling your paid users)... and if you want your own look to the site... a custom WordPress theme made. And that's it really. If you'd like a list of companies that do that let me know. See ya On 9/11/07, M. Given that your manifesto is about less, not more, perhaps you have all you need at this juncture? I would add a satellite phone or satellite internet connection, but I don't know how remote you plan to get, or how often you will be returning to areas of cellular coverage or available WiFi hotspots. In our RV, we have a satellite internet receiver, a GPSr (which works in amusing ways), two cell phones (ATT-- I would recommend getting 2 cells on different networks, so you have the broadest coverage), and the usual complement of laptops and cameras. But then, we're not doing a 1-year journalism exercise, so our goals and needs are different. Re: [videoblogging] I invite you to have coffee with dougri and a special project in Cambodia
I just wanted to share my daily vlog with members of the group showing a project just completed in Cambodia. This project began with the Vloggercon t-shirts donated to the Sharing Foundation in Cambodia. Beth Kanter does volunteer work with them, and talked about wanting to bring videoblogging to Cambodia. Actually a total of seven camcorders and ten digital cams were donated to this project. I had assumed that the three Hasbro Vcams I donated were the ones given out at the Camodian bloggers summit, but i was mistaken. Jay Dedman and Ryanne Hodson brought four video cams to the Sharing Foudnation on their recent trip to Cambodia. Beth Kanter acquired three more vcams for the summit where she was doing a presentation. This story is just to show the power of the net and what four individuals can do. We have given these young people in Cambodia the 21st century version of a soapbox to spread the word of their various causes and issues. So please join me for a cup of coffee. Doug does this cool thing where he make a short video each week on Youtube to talk about things he likes. It's doug who found the small 50$ Vcams that we took to Camodia. Actually, this video is a nice continuation of a story that stated on this list: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggnL-hDLcew We sent some old Vloggercon t-shirts to some students in Cambodia. Ryamond, the boy king, said you should send the cameras instead!. good idea. So a series of coincidences happened where we could actually visit cambodia and give the students the cameras that Doug bought. Beth Kanter visited right after us and did a whole workshop at a Cambodian blogging conference. Now we have some Cambodians videoblogging. Beth, can you share some of the links? Pro's and Con's to DIY. Big on list is reliability and liability. How much time you want to put into it vs turning it over to someone else. Do you want a turnkey solution? The preview to be nearly impossible to download? Are you looking for Learning Management System http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learning_Management_System#LMS_platforms to accompany your videos? In other words will a student complete these training videos to earn a certificate or some other accreditation? (*Disclaimer: - One of my friends/business relationships uses SIMPLY DIGI.COM's service. I do not make any money, points or kudos) They are happy with SimplyDigi's service (used for the training videos and testing for each level of the course completed). Student response has been good to excellent (depends on age). Easy to use and navigate as a newbie. Nothing flashy or fancy. http://www.simplydigi.com/ http://www.simplydigi.com/products/lms/index.aspx ...A Learning Management System LMS / LCMS handles and controls the delivery of self-paced, instructor led, e-learning courses. The LMS lets you publish courses and place them in an easy to use online catalog. Learners log into the LMS with any browser, select courses from the course catalog and take them. The LMS tracks the learners activities, providerships, professional licenses, progress, compliance with course assignments and much more. The LMS provides online reports for each course and learner yet is inexpensive and provides the essential features you need We shot a simple/straight forward video intro for each course. Another company produced a Power Point slide show that is the course material. That PPT was transfered to Flash (pause, rewind, take a break and come back later or another day). It is secure, allows for a teaser video and I believe you can customize it to your hearts content to get it to do what you want. They do the billing, you do the billing? Lots of questions. If you just want to password protect the videos to sell, then another one stop solution to look into is Google APPS http://www.google.com/a/. You can set up a membership and do some clever stuff with their other offerings (Google Video, Checkout, Picaso, GoogleTalk, Orkut). A while back Amazon had something that looked promising. I cannot for the life remember what it was called (if it had a distinct name) but the obvious advantage was a potentially higher ranking in a web search, a established and secure checkout, and it did provide a preview. It may have been called Amazon Author (for self publishers). If it comes to me I'll post it so that everyone can see it (unless someone knows and can save me now!!) There are a few other sites that also might be of use. Jonny Platinum Goldstein uses http://Operator11.com and that might work. http://Blip.tv or http://Spinxpress.com could also be a solution. GoToMeeting is more along the lines of a web conference but (I believe) there is a way to archive/sell video access. https://www.gotomeeting.com/ Plenty of other ideas will be shared. If you want to know more about how we used Simply Digi contact me off list. D --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, blah blah [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This might be a common question. [videoblogging] Re: Need advice for road trip
Contrary to how or what I have said before (ie... spend your money at small businesses). In traveling situations it is a good idea to use things you can buy EVERYWHERE (or just about) Radio Shack for example is in even the smallest towns. Truck Stops are YOUR FRIEND. Want to have inexpensive lights? Take a stroll in a Truck Stop's big rig accessory section. Most everything is 12VDC or 24VDC. Trust me, would I lie to you? Wheels Wheels Wheels!!! Didn't see anything in your video to give me a clue to what you are hitting the road in. Assuming it is a van (even a mini or SUV) there should be a way to pack this or similar Handtruck. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=37520 I added two additional wheels in the center of the axle. Two reasons (maybe three) stability, redundancy, and it looks cool. To separate these two inside wheels I cut a piece of copper pipe (It don't rust). It works great to haul stuff (saves your back) and as a impromptu dolly. You need to decide if you want to use a foam fill or carry a patch kit, or spare tire, and a air pump. When using it as a dolly (One person stands another push/pulls) you will want to let a little air out to make a smoother move. There are folding Hand Trucks. If you go with a cheap one, buy from a company you will be sure to pass often (lowe's etc) and return it the moment it even starts to look shaky. Or splurge and go with something like this http://traveloasis.com/karhds.html Charging and electricity. A inverter is a major help. You can pick up cheap ones that plug into a cigarette lighter or get a heavy duty (8amp or better) that will require some electrical work or a pair of jumper cables. http://tinyurl.com/yufg4s Harbour Frieght is this example. Grainger or even Lowe's might be worth a look. Pawn Shops occasionally have inverters. Radio Shack is of course on the list. A spaceblanket... not just for survival ... it makes a great reflector. A CB radio. Seriously. If you have the time to hunt there are some handheld two ways or buy new. Grabbed this from PriceGrabber http://tinyurl.com/3y3zfm A etching tool. Mark every piece of gear. Waterproof dufflebags. More a luxury item, but it sure takes the worry out of life. Better solution is cases. Pelican http://www.pelican.com/ makes nice stuff. Think stacking on that dolly. Think stacking everything!!! Really small cooler (never transport beer or liquor, especially across state lines, not joking, if you are stopped it could get you in deeper doo doo). Fill it the night before or the morning of with just enough to make the day. On the passenger side floor is good easy access/footrest. Strapping it all down. My one eye friend Tom recommends Ratchet Straps. He don't like bungie cords ... Eye wander why. AAA or some other trip/safety service, but you should have a road emergency kit. Up to you, but if you plan to visit the entire 48 contiguous states you will either plan to have it all or modify it as you make your way across zones. Snow, water, heat yada yada yada. Which brings me to clothing Tough to do what I am about to suggest, maybe. No more then 10 days of change in clothing. Packing smart is not easy, you will get better as the days get behind you. Pack clothes in days and split them in to at least two bags for each of you (four total). Roll your stuff, it packs better/tighter. Use some kind of color codeing if everything is the same (black waterproof bags/cases). Or tags. And put your name/phone # on as much or as little as you want. Buy Polar Fleece (new or second hand) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_fleece and similar (NEW) synthetic undergarments. EASY TO CLEAN AND DRIES FAST! (WARNING--- This stuff does melt when exposed to flame or intense heat). Your days are layers. Bundle up in Fall and winter, strip layer Spring Summer. One rain suit/wind breaker (NOT BLACK unless you have reflective strips) I am a NorthFace guy... http://www.thenorthface.com/ (get direct from them or shop at REI http://www.rei.com/ Duffle bags, clothing, everything. You are essentially camping out for a year, even if you are guests or stay in the occasional hotel) Last word on packing. Almost everything will have a way to tuck things in with it. Spare shoes hold spare socks. Sleeping Bag rolls up around foam mat. It is a puzzle. You'll start to see ways to pack that distributes not only the contents but weight/size. Shoes that are comfortable and a second pair. Socks that wick moisture and wool socks. All this can be stowed in places you seldom look anyway, under seats. Behind that plastc cover in the back. Out of easy reach in the truck for some things. Two gallons of water minimum! (rotate or replenish evry couple of weeks if you are storing the water in a plastic container). Shovel (old Army Folding shovel is good) MRE's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRE at least enough to survive for 10 days. Serious here again. I spent years as a roadie, plenty of couches, but sometimes

In Eagle Rock (where they filmed Reservoir Dogs) they have a old movie theater, the Eagle Theater, which may be available for rent. I think it may still be owned by Fred Eric, who also owns the hipster cafe Fred 62 in Los Feliz: http://cinematreasures.org/theater/1145/ Eagle Rock is located between Pasadena and Glendale, right on Route 66. Nice WiFi coffee shop right up the street, some good restaurants including the Best Pizza in L.A., Casa Bianca (where they call it a pizza pie). It's a fairly large theater, seats at least 200, I would think. Harold On 9/11/07, Amy bugbee [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Is Ill Corral still around?
