Hi
who is using disk instead of tape as a backup storagepool? Could you
please share experiences and what you have setup. (nas, san, etc) We are
looking into getting something like this but aren't really sure what the

I noticed that difference also. I am running AIX 5.1 ML3.
The card in question is a gigabit card.

Hi,
I have a couple of tsm clients in my DMZ. The backups through
the firewall are no problem at all (port 1500).

Gerald,
No. This won't work.
Well, it won't work unless you are using the same TSM NODENAME
for all of your Exchange Servers.. which I don't recommend.
The command below will query all of the Exchange Server backups
that appear under the NODENAME that you have in the DSM.OPT file.

Hello fellow xSM'ers,
So, this weekend I ran 2 archives of some files we occasionally must archive
for indefinite periods of time (basically forever). I ran 2 archives and
the following is the command used for one of them:
archive snip to remove list of files -delete -description=Land Board
Do you log the output of the dsmc archive command? If so, check the
output and dsmerror.log. I imagine that your problem is due to a missing
hyphen (-) in front of the archmc option. That is, you are using
archmc=blah when you need -archmc=blah.

Chris,
The error log message 10/04/2003 15:08:37 ANS1076E *** Directory path not

archmc option was not preceded by a hyphen, TSM interpreted it as a file
specification. Since you have no file by that name, it generated the
Some time ago, someone on this list wrote inquiring about the use of

Many other types of cartridges have a recessed area for applying an external
identifying label other than the bar code, but the LTO cartridges do not.

Mark, I'd like you to do the following to see if we can fix the problem
you're having:
1. Apply the fix for APAR IY46228. (fileset bos.net.tcp.client

2. I would also make the following changes to your network options:
no -o thewall=1058576
I have been involved with some of these discussions in the past.
I wonder what your labels will do though after they have been
checked in/out a handful of times AND have been handled by
a number of people?
I thought about this some after last discussion on it. I again
looked at our IBM LTO1
Great news. ... Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know of good software (freeware/open source) to print LTO-1
barcode labels?
TIA ... Jack

Given a tape, is there a select query that will tell me what servers have
data on that particular tape? It'd be nice to know what file systems as well
but that level of granularity isn't necessary. I.e. I have tape XYZ, I run

Juan,
Whatever ip address you supply in the dsm.sys file for TCPSERVERADDRESS whether it is
a css switch or 10/100 Ethernet, it does not matter to AIX. You will be limited to the
performance of the network. You have to run cfgmgr -v to allow TSM to walk the Device

Yes, this is how it works, ...and, This is a Problem.
I frequently make a tape read only if it is having enough I/O errors to
suspect the tape media. So I want to get it out of circulation, perhaps
to send it for recirtification or replacement. (At USD$100/each I do not

Dear juean,
The command u are using is valid if your volumes are already lablled and are ready to
go to scratch. So run AUDIT LIBRARY
syntax is audit library 3584_lib .This will remove the inconsistencies of the volume
labels.
And if your volumes are fresh ,then first label these volumes
