I am running native Wayland on the laptop, but the scale factor is set to
100% (it was originally set to 125% by the OS when I first installed it but
I changed it soon after).

I read the bug you listed. Although my situation is with the scale factor
at 100% I will try to sneak some time to see if lowering/raising the factor
makes a dent.

[kwin] [Bug 483229] Sometimes unable to bring background apps to the front while Chrome/Chromium is running

2024-03-19 Thread Dean Hoover
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483229

The only apps that I've been able to recreate this is Google Chrome and
UnGoogled Chromium. I don't use any other Chromium-based browser, and it
doesn't seem to happen with Firefox.

It's almost as if the browser believes that the window is larger than it
actually is. For example, the browser window might be 800x1000 but it
tells the DE that it's 800x1050 so that if the mouse clicks between the
1000 and 1050 the browser window becomes the foreground instead of the
actual app that they are trying to get to.

Unless you think this still might be a KDE issue, I think you can close
this ticket. I also submitted feedback to Google but I honestly don't
think they will say or do anything about it. And now that I have a better
grasp of where and when it happens, I can adjust the way I do things to
mitigate the issue.

Appreciate your time Nate. I've been a UNIX and Linux server user and
administrator for almost 40 years, but every DE I've tried never worked
well enough for me. KDE has changed my mind, and if it wasn't for a couple
Windows-only apps (Cisco ASDM, Teams' ability to take control of PC, etc)
I'd be 100% Linux and KDE for work and home.

Keep up the great work!

Let's try it over Google Drive.

Also - I was able to recreate it with UnGoogled-Chromium - just much
smaller area than with Google Chrome.

Hello Nate,

I was definitely able to recreate it, but playing around a bit I think this
might have something to do with Google Chrome. I can't recreate it if I'm
using Firefox or even UnGoogled Chromium.

I attached two Spectacle videos to kind of show you what I mean (if you
don't get them let me know and I'll attach them to my Nextcloud or Google
Drive) For some reason, Chrome extends beyond that actual window size.

Not sure if this is KDE or Chrome - let me know what you think.

Sorry Nate - haven't forgot about you.

I did play with the new user, and I couldn't seem to recreate it. That
being said, I have only gotten to test it for about 5-10 minutes. I hope
to dig more into it tonight or possibly this weekend.

[Active Window Control] [Bug 483229] New: Unable to click background app/window to foreground using mouse

2024-03-11 Thread Dean Hoover
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483229

Bug ID: 483229
Summary: Unable to click background app/window to foreground
using mouse
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Active Window Control
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: zrenf...@gmail.com
  Reporter: kb7...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I apologize if this isn't the right place to put this.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Load multiple, different apps on desktop (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, PuTTY,
Remmina, etc)
2. Left-click on one of the background apps to try and bring it to foreground

OBSERVED RESULT

Under most circumstances, I am not able to use the mouse to take the background
app/window and bring it to be the foreground app/window. Also not able to
bring it to foreground by clicking on the top, bottom, or side border. Just my
observation, but the only time I seem to be able to make it work is if there is
some type of written text in the area where I clicked.

EXPECTED RESULT

This functionality has worked with Windows since I can remember, and I can
certainly recreate it with Windows 10 and 11.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE 6 (also able to recreate in previous versions of KDE 5)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0
KDE Frameworks Version: can provide more specifics if needed
Qt Version: can provide more specifics if needed

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I submitted this using my work PC running Windows 11 - if more specific details
are needed, just let me know and I'll provide it on my home laptop.

Re: Please help me with this perl question

2011-12-30 Thread Dean Hoover
I don't see how you can do that... you are dependent on the capabilities of
the terminal. If its an old school text terminal, you can't just
draw arbitrary stuff like a rotated D. That is pretty fancy and even in
graphics mode has nothing to do with perl, or do I misunderstand your
question?

Say a D rotated 90 degrees or something.
or an A with the innards filled in.

Here's how to print alpha to omega:

 perl -C2 -lwe 'print join q(, ), map chr, 0x391 .. 0x3a9'

 Α, Β, Γ, Δ, Ε, Ζ, Η, Θ, Ι, Κ, Λ, Μ, Ν, Ξ, Ο, Π, Ρ, ΢, Σ, Τ, Υ, Φ, Χ, Ψ, Ω

If you know the Unicode codepoints you can certainly print the characters.
 For Perl, it's essentially numbers.

Whether your particular character comes out nicely or not depends on
whether the font you're using has the glyph in question.

Next time you might want to spend two seconds or even ten thinking
about a suitable subject line …

Re: Using calendar .ics files over Tomcat 5.5

2011-09-15 Thread Dean Hoover
We are not using DAV, just simple iCalendar (.ics) files.

It was running on an old Win2k server using an even older Apache web service
before. Was just hoping to be able to move the files over and allow write
permissions in Tomcat.

If that's not possible, I will pursue another option to make it work.
 Thanks everyone for your comments.

It is not possible to simply write to files published on web servers

Unless that thing uses DAV, and the server is configured to support it
of course. I have a vague recollection that this is what this plugin

Correct, but then that is not a 'simple' write to the file...
The OP hasn't mentioned DAV yet.

Re: Using calendar .ics files over Tomcat 5.5

2011-09-15 Thread Dean Hoover
Fair enough, Chuck.

I don't know exactly what writes the file, but since we are using the
Lightning add-on from Thunderbird, I would assume that Lightning is doing
the work.

As far as how it used to work, everyone would read from the .ics calendar on
the old server from Lightning via a web link. Those with the proper access
were able to write to it for adding/updating/deleting calendar entries.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the feedback. It seems that this is a
little more involved than I thought, which is fine. I see there are
open-source alternatives, so I will pursue those.

It's all good. Thanks again.

But what _writes_ the files? Unless you have your own servlet to do this,
or use DAV or a similar file upload mechanism, nothing cause an update of
 data on the server.

It was running on an old Win2k server using an even

Perhaps if you explained more fully how the prior mechanism worked, we
could suggest an alternative for use with Tomcat. So far, we've really got
 nothing to go on.

Using calendar .ics files over Tomcat 5.5

2011-09-14 Thread Dean Hoover
Hello,

I am running Tomcat 5.5 in support of a internal-use only JSPWiki site.

To consolidate, I decided to move our internal calendars (using the iCal
.ics extension) from our very old Win2k server to the root directory of
Tomcat as well.

The problem I am having is that we are unable to modify (add/remove calendar
entries) after the move. We can read them just fine. I figure there is an
issue of permissions, and have Googled many sites that tell me to change the
catalina.policy file and add the ability for that directory to have read and
write access. I've even used the AllPermissions setting, but with no
success.

I tried running catalina.sh start -debug, but I don't get anything
substantial from the log files, either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I did look at the link you sent when I first started this mission. It

Co-workers are hearing hissing sounds on some calls, and I am getting

I see that sharing IRQs for Digium cards isn't recommended, so I'm
trying to set it so each card gets its own.  From the few web sites
I've read so far, including Digium's FAQ site, I've added ACPI and
verified that the BIOS does not give me the ability to manually set
the IRQ.  I've even taken one of the TE121's out of the server (it
isn't being used anyways).  Everything I've done so far has not fixed
it.  All the cards (as well as USB1) all use IRQ 16.

The other option given was to use setpci, but I am unfamiliar with
that command.  I did what I could to try and find the setting (based
on what the man page on Ubuntu's web site) where I could see the value
 16, but not getting anywhere.

I know that this is more of an Asterisk forum than Digium.  If I need
to put in a case at Digium I will, but wanted to see if there were any
suggestions here before I pursued that.

 Any help would be appreciated.

A month ago I had similar problems with a HP DL360g6 and a HP DL380g7
 running Debian 5 Lenny.
In the HP DL360g6 I had one TE121. I noticed IRQ misses and the problem was
 easily reproduced
by running dahdi_maint to enable loopback and patlooptest while compiling
 asterisk to create some i/o.

When I installed Debian 6 Squeeze instead the problem went away. Tested
 with both servers above.
On this page I found some information about APIC (Advanced Programmable
 Interupt Controller)
 http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/pci_irq_apic_tdm_ticks_te410p_te405p_noise.html
 (quite old but informative)

I haven't got the time to verify the root cause of the problem yet (I've
planned to do this at the end of this month)
but my theory is that it has something to do with the kernels APIC handling
that was fixed between Debian 5 and 6.

 Maybe you experience something similar?

[asterisk-users] Debugging not going to log file

2011-03-29 Thread Dean Hoover
I have an Asterisk server running 1.6.2.13, where I can't seem to get
the increased logging to save to the /var/log/asterisk/messages file.
I have tried using the standard core set debug 10 and core set
verbose 10, as well as specifically pointing it to the filename with
core set debug 10 /var/log/asterisk/messages. Still, only the most
serious errors are being reported to the messages log file.

It seems to work fine with my other Asterisk running 1.4.23.1. Is
there something else that I'm missing?

[asterisk-users] T1 PRI shows yellow/red alarm

2011-02-21 Thread Dean Hoover
We are running Asterisk version 1.4.23-1, libpri-1.4.9 and
zaptel-1.4.12.1 and two Digium TE220Ps. Debugs are set to 10.

We have a T1 PRI connected to the telco. Over the last 4-5 days, we
have getting Yellow/Red alarms coming from the T1 PRI. The other two
ports in use are connected to internal test switches (Avaya
Legend/Avaya Definity), and are not showing any errors.

/var/log/asterisk/messages reports:
[Feb 21 12:21:56] NOTICE[4795] chan_dahdi.c: PRI got event: Alarm (4)
on Primary D-channel of span 2
[Feb 21 12:21:56] DEBUG[4795] chan_dahdi.c: Got event Alarm (4) on
D-channel for span 2

/var/log/syslog reports:
Feb 21 12:21:56 asterisk kernel: [509981.796536] wct2xxp: Setting
yellow alarm on span 2
Feb 21 12:21:56 asterisk kernel: [509981.796562] timing source auto card 0!
Feb 21 12:21:56 asterisk kernel: [509981.813535] timing source auto card 0!
Feb 21 12:22:01 asterisk kernel: [509986.813869] wct2xxp: Clearing
yellow alarm on span 2

Intensive PRI debugging does not show any errors prior to the alarm.

The other part to this is for a while it was pretty intermittent. One
day we would get it 2 times, another 8-12 times. Today, however, it
seems to be happening around every 11-13 minutes. Before this
started, there were no errors for the 6 days prior.

The first response from the telco 4 days ago said that it was an issue
on their T3, then came back saying we were sending something to reset
the circuit, but I interpret PRI got event as meaning we received
something from them.

They put a COM tracer in our building, on that circuit, since Friday
afternoon. They took it with them to examine the results this
morning, and are supposed to call me when they know something.

While they are doing that, I want to make sure that I have all the
information I need in order to diagnose it. I haven't found a way to
trace the actual B8ZS/ESF frames, and was wondering if there was a way
for me to log those events. It's not that I don't trust them, but by
the same token I haven't changed anything on my end, the other port on
the Digium card isn't reporting an issue, and a complete shutdown of
the Asterisk server didn't change the results.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [asterisk-users] T1 PRI shows yellow/red alarm

2011-02-21 Thread Dean Hoover
That is certainly an option, but my query was more on the side of is
it possible to trace/log the ESF frames. From what I have read, there
are signals going back and forth from a lower level than the
D-channel, and in ESF there are codes that can be sent to the other
side to reset the frame. If that is the case, I would like to be able
to log those frame messages. If the issue is on my side, then it is
either Asterisk, libpri, zaptel or the card itself that is sending it.

m, I would change the timing sources of the spans:

Have you try to plug the PRI into another Span that has been working
 properly??

[Bug 717489] [NEW] Update Manager fails when trying to upgrade to 10.10

2011-02-11 Thread Dean Hoover
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I am attempting to upgrade to version 10.10 on my netbook, and it keeps
giving an error. This error is reported when using both the GUI and
from a terminal using do-release-upgrade:

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.

I did a quick search and it did say something about a mirror for the
google talk source list, so i removed the package, tried again, but got
the same result. Standard 10.04 LTS updates work fine.

Re: [asterisk-users] How different is implementing Cisco based system than Asterisk based system?

the underlying VoIP technology is the same for both the systems so it
shouldn't be hard to set it up on Cisco. Any ideas, suggestions. I'd
appreciate your help as what to look for, where to start from. My experience
with Cisco is limited to their networking equipment, IOS, their 7960 series
phones and making them work with asterisk, and also using Cisco press's
wonderful book 'Taking charge of Your VoIP Project'.

You don't mention anything about size or nature of the installation.
If these people want Cisco support, they'll have to buy this gear from
an official Cisco reseller, and that's when you'll get a ballpark
price for initial deployment, ongoing support, etc.

When you compare that to Asterisk, perhaps you'll have a convert. Or
maybe not. Decision makers have their reasons and clearly if price was
the only reason, Cisco / Avaya / etc. wouldn't still be selling phone
 systems.

I've done enough Cisco installations to tell you it's not all that hard,
especially if they are using the latest and greatest software, gateways
and IP phones. Set up the UC server on the network, use the web
interface to add/configure the gateways, and if you have DHCP setting up
the IP phones is pretty much a snap.

On the other hand, David is right. Cost of Cisco equipment is one
thing, but Cisco requires annual maintenance on all the software and
hardware before they will talk to you.

We set up a 15-phone Cisco setup in our Florida office. Works well.
Then decided to upgrade our 30-phone office here in Wisconsin to
Asterisk. Twice as many phones, one-third the cost. Same
functionality, but the Wisconsin office has simultaneous-calling and our
own conference bridge at no extra cost.

The last three years Cisco has been charging over $2000 a year just in
the maintenance on the equipment in our Florida office. The boss
doesn't want to pay it anymore, so I am right now moving them over to
Asterisk. ROI is less then two years.

the condition is met. GIYF on this one.

I use logrotate to help with the files in /var/log/asterisk, but it does
nothing with Master.csv. I am working on a script described earlier
that if the file gets larger than a certain number of lines to move them
off to another file and compress for space.

If that is something anyone else is interested in, let me know and I'll
post it when it's working.

Re: [asterisk-users] one for your filters

2010-06-23 Thread Dean Hoover
You can look at it a few different ways. Use one or more methods:

1. If you are allowing SIP phones to register from anywhere (inside and
outside your network), make sure all the extensions have VERY strong
passwords (12 characters or more of absolute jibberish).

2. Use deny/permit for those extensions that will only be registered
inside your network. Those trying from the outside will never succeed.

3. Restrict the type of calls those extensions can make. If noone
should ever call international numbers, don't put it as an option.
Using _91NXXNXX and _9NXX (Assuming US - sorry) limits the
ability of the extension. There is only one person in our organization
that would ever make international calls, so I added a context where he
is the only one that can make those calls. And, even then, I made sure
that extension can't call places where he shouldn't call (Cuba, etc) AND
that extension can't register from outside our network.

Using the default Asterisk settings is great for making sure that things
are working the way you want, but only after securing your Asterisk
server will it work the way you need.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

I've seen the Grandstream Handytone 286 online. It looks promising as

What do people think about both products?

Bonus points for if people have bulk deployed these, either with TFTP
and configs pushed from a server, or some other good idea.

It seems that the PAP2T does support TFTP and an XML-based config for
 deployments...

 PAP2T - excellent

 Handytone - crap

Pretty much every large scale TSP has standardized on the PAP2T or 2102.
There is a reason the Handytone is priced so low...

I agree with Jeff.

I use a PAP2T for home (one SIP connection to Broadvoice and the other
to our work Asterisk) and has worked near flawlessly. My first ATA was
the HT286, and just does not hold a candle.

[asterisk-users] Turning off DNIS on T1 set to FXO_LS protocol

2010-03-08 Thread Dean Hoover
Hello everyone,

Our company has an Asterisk server where one of the T1s is connected to
an IVR. Asterisk is configured for FXO Loopstart, and the IVR is
configured FXS.

We can call into it, but our software doesn't expect DNIS digits on FXS,
and the digits are being interpreted as user input.

We can certainly change our software accordingly, but our test bed also
includes other switches where DNIS is not passed to the IVR.

I was wondering if there is a setting (Zaptel or Asterisk) that will not
forward any DNIS information to the call? I've searched the web as best
I could, but did not find anything. If you have a link that answers my
question, please send that.

SERVER CONFIG:
Asterisk 1.4.23.1
Zaptel 1.4.12.1
Digium TE210P dual-span T1/E1/J1 card

Thanks in advance,

Re: [asterisk-users] asterisk and CCM cisco call manager

2009-09-09 Thread Dean Hoover
Jerry,

I'm assuming that you mean that Cisco calls are making it to Asterisk,
but Asterisk calls are getting the rejection.

Looking at this again, there is probably not a network path issue since
packets are being sent and received.

Doing some quick research on what Cisco defines as a 503 Service
Unavailable, there is a Cisco document that gives a better explanation:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2t/12_2t11/feature/guide/ftmap.html

A CCM trace on the CM's end might give a better reason why the 503 was
returned.

Sorry for putting you on the wrong path before.

they updated to 6.1.3 and it no longer works.
I tried updating to 1.4.26.2 but still not working.

I get SIP error 503 service unavailable.

The guy says he has MTP enabled etc...

Anyone connected to CCM 6.1.3 and have it working?

 Thanks,

 Jerry

[asterisk-users] MWI using Asterisk and external mail server

2009-07-21 Thread Dean Hoover
We are upgrading to Asterisk as our company phone switch. We have our
own Auto-Attendant, call center and voice mail servers.

One issue that we are having right now is our voice mail server sending
Asterisk the NOTIFY to turn MWI on our Polycom SIP phones.

I see from the research I've done (including previous posts here) that
Asterisk did not support external MWI events.

Is this still the case? Is there anything in the works currently to
change that?

In the end, all we are looking for is to have the ability to turn on and
off the MWI light on the SIP phones.

Thanks,
Dean

I'd say that your server is no longer able to access the SIP-provider.
Confirm that you have network access first, then verify that you didn't
make any changes to your configuration. If everything is good there, I
would work with your provider to make sure the settings are correct.

using Plucene and Plucene::Simple

2006-04-18 Thread Dean Hoover
I have developed some simple programs in java form creating lucene indexes and
then using them to search. I now have an interest in using perl to use the
indexes for search purposes, but am having trouble doing even the simplest
thing using Plucene and Plucene::Simple. If anyone here can help, I would
appreciate it. After googling and attempting to use Plucene directly, it
appeared that it would be better to use Plucene::Simple. Trouble is, it will
not install, either on my windows XP box or my linux box. In both cases, the
install fails (more or less) the same way. Here is the message from the linux
box:

  make: *** [test] Error 255
  /usr/bin/make test -- NOT OK
Running make install
make test had returned bad status, won't install without force
Failed during this command:
  ADIE/Test-Class-0.11.tar.gz : make_test NO
  STRYTOAST/PluceneSimple-1.04.tar.gz : make_test NO

There are a bunch of test failures before that. I installed Plucene (1.24)
just fine.

The example code on the Plucene perldoc page could be a little more complete.
All I want to do is use QueryParser against a lucene index I created using
java, and get back a list of documents. I have done this in java but seem to be
lacking the Rosetta stone to do it in perl. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

  Thanks.
  Dean

I see where there is a colspan attribute for a PdfPCell, but there is no

How can I do rowpanning?

There are still problems with Table for several cases of nested tables.
PdfPTable is more reliable.

I am also a newbie at this. I've "solved" a small portion of your

do.

in your top level Makefile.am file, add a target:

debug:
$(MAKE) all "CXXFLAGS=-g -DDEBUG"

now, if you want to have everything in the directory re-made
to debug, do "make clean debug". You must be careful after
that to always type "make debug", or the system will compile
in the normal optimized way. This is a problem because it
does *not* separate automatically as you would like.

I have hand built many Makefiles in the past for doing what
you are saying and it seems like a reasonable request. But
I am only a user of this system and do not know what it would
take to accomodate your request.

Another thing you could do is make multiple build directories
and always make in a certain way in them. In other words, you
could:

  mkdir debug-build opt-build
  cd debug-build; $top_srcdir/configure; make debug; cd ..
  cd opt-build; $top_srcdir/configure; make; cd ..

I hope this helps (somewhat).

These commands are correct. We used the same command to build the 1.1.0 D05

egcs-2.91.66 (essentially what comes canned in RH 6.1).

Please try the 1.1.0 D05 version and see if you still get the same error.
