Bug#539186: nolisten switch in /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc ignored

two ways of getting round this: either do ssh before starting X, or
start X with the --nolisten switch.

The above switch is there in /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc but it does not
 seem to have any effect.

How is X started? What's /proc/`pidof X`/cmdline?

Bug#550679: libmp4ff-dev: standard inclusion of mp4ff.h fails

2009-10-14 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Maybe we should replace #ifdef HAVE_STDINT_H with e.g. #ifdef
__unix__ in the exported header.

Romain Beauxis schrieb:

Hi !

The simple inclusion of mp4ff.h seems to fail when compiling:
mp4ff.h:41:29: error: mp4ff_int_types.h: No such file or directory

This seems to be due to:
#ifdef HAVE_STDINT_H
#include stdint.h
#else
#include mp4ff_int_types.h
#endif

Forcing the inclusion of stdint.h seems to fix the issue.

Thank you for the bug report.

fusecompress needs version 4.999.9beta of the xz lzma library. The current
version of the library in Debian (Experimental) is 4.999.8beta.

I would prefer enabling support for lzma once it moves out of beta and is part
of unstable.

Bug#550792: udev: /dev/disk/by-uuid problem

2009-10-14 Thread Chris Donoghue
Please also report the output of:

 ls -l /lib/udev/rules.d/ /etc/udev/rules.d/ /dev/disk/*/

After being able to see a root filesystem and boot with 146 my system does map
correctly my dmraid entries. But this works fine with 141 udev. When my
/dev/mapper entry can't be mounted with 146 udev I'm dropped to a maintenance
shell.

The first attachment is before I have run dmraid -a y from the maintenence
shell and the second is when after dmraid -a. I then do a mount -a to mount
all partitions and exit the shell to successfully boot. The listing generated
there is exactly the same as the second listing.

The first results have no by-label and no by-uuid entries.

After the dmraid call I then get the single uuid entry being the raid.

after a boot (with 146, if you downgraded udev then your system may be
 broken).

My current grub entry uses root=/dev/disk/by-id/entry to boot when having udev
146 installed. After logging on and then dpkg -i udev 141 both the UUID grub
entry and the /dev/disk/by-id entries work fine.

It's a bit weird as the raid also doesn't start up now. I hadn't noticed the
dmraid failure as after doing a manual edit of the grub upon the first failure
I installed the old udev package only and updated grub to have the by-id
entry also as a boot listing.

The system boots without a single problem with the old udev installed.

Bug#550843: ldapvi: does not handle EDITOR values with arguments

2009-10-14 Thread David Lichteblau
Hi,

Quoting Marcus Better (mar...@better.se):
The question rather would be: How would you specify a pathname/filename
  that has spaces in it?

By escaping like the shell perhaps?

That is what svn documents in the svnbook, yes.

following that approach might raise security related issues with
  injecting escape sequences,

Are you seriously saying that hg, svn and git have security issues
because of this? Because they work fine with my setting.

I wouldn't see it as a security issue, but it's certainly something that
needs to be documented well. (If it's shell, then which shell is it?
Does it have to be the user's shell?)

A quick google survey turns up some IBM tools which explicitly say that
EDITOR must be a full path for them, so presumably they even call
execv(3) rather than execvp(3), much less system(3).

But if prevailing implementation practice among modern tools is to go
through the shell, then I'm sympathetic to that request for the sake of
compatibility.

Do you have a patch for this?

Package: apt-offline

The package description is really not informative, and just spells out
name of the package in a verbose way.

Please describe the use case of such tool and the workflow it supports,
otherwise potential users cannot guess if it is the tool the need.

Bug#543718: Reproducible for Sid only

2009-10-14 Thread Chris Carr
Hi there,

I have three machines: tony, baba and xaphod. Tony is the client
machine, running three gkrellm monitors (one for each machine). Package
versions are all 2.2.13-1 (gkrelltop for tony, gkrelltopd for the other
two). Tony's version of gkrellm is 2.3.2-4

The segfault occurs reliably whenever I run gkrellm -s xaphod on
tony. Yet when I run the identical command gkrellm -s baba on tony,
everything works fine.

So there is presumably some package causing a problem further down the
dependency chain. (Tony and baba are running Squeeze; Xaphod is running
Sid.) Very happy to try and analyse this if someone can tell me what to
look for.

Regards,

CC

Bug#274747: dependency on dpkg-dev is not required for provides

2009-10-14 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Aurelien Jarno aurel...@aurel32.net writes:

Another option is that all the Provides: part of type-handling is done
on dpkg. The current problem with the implementation:
 - A rebuild of type-handling is needed each time a new architecture is
   added to dpkg.
 - Provides do not always work as an alternative. This require for
example type-handling to be installed on the build daemons
(technically it should be an Essential package for this to work).

That's why I am not really for more usage of type-handling, which IMHO
 should simply disappear.

This gets even worse with multiarch.

Depending on the dpkg config (what archs to allow, and any multiarch
config will break something) the type-handling will break down.

Examples:

amd64 + i386: amd64 has not-i386 and i386 has not-amd64. It is kind of
strange that you are both i386 and not-i386 but that is multiarch for
you.

amd64 + kfreebsd-amd64: Now you have linux and not-linux.

I already saw some nice confusing effects of this with ia32-apt-get
and had to blacklist type-handling from the non-native archs.

Goswin

Bug#550940: generated LocalSettings.php should not be world-readable

2009-10-14 Thread Marcus Better
Package: mediawiki
Version: 1:1.15.1-1
Severity: important

After running the web-based initial configuration of mediawiki
(/var/lib/mediawiki/config/index.php), it created a LocalSettings.php
and instructed me to place it in /etc/mediawiki:

~$ ls -l /etc/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php
-rw-rw-rw- 1 www-data www-data 4536 14 okt 10.54
/etc/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php

This file contains MySQL passwords and should therefore not be world-readable.

I notice that README.Debian suggests changing this, but the file
should not be created world-readable in the first place.

Bug#550942: [gnome] Mouse pointer invisible directly after starting gnome

2009-10-14 Thread Jakob Lell

Package: gnome
Version: 1:2.26+2
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I've reported this bug against the package gnome since I have no idea
which of the many packages of gnome is responsible for the problem. So
please reassign it to the correct package.

When I log in to gnome with my normal user account, the mouse pointer
isn't visible directly after logging in. In gdm and during the gnome
startup (roughly before the panels are shown) the mouse pointer is
visible. Then it disappears automatically. The problem seems to be
somehow related to my configuration. It works perfectly when I log in as
another user. I don't remember having changed any related configuration
entries before. I'd prefer not to loose my whole gnome configuration. So
maybe you can point me to where in the configuration the error might be.
I've already tried changing the mouse pointer in Appearance in the gnome
control center. This didn't solve my problem.

After a few minutes (and moving the mouse) the mouse pointer appears
again. As a workaround, the mouse pointer usually appears quiet quickly
when starting the command Xnest :1 and moving the mouse a lot.

The new version (1:1.1-1) of bash-completion includes a file
(/etc/bash_completion.d/munin-node) which is malformed. When trying to login in
gdm I get an error saying that my session was less than 10 seconds long. It
also renders a message saying:

/etc/bash_completion.d/munin-node: _munin-node is not a valid identifier.

Changing dashes (-) for underscores (_) in certain places in the file solves
the problem.

Are you seriously saying that hg, svn and git have security issues

 Erm, about git (svn):
http://osdir.com/ml/git/2009-02/msg02581.html, it doesn't work - and
there are also some interesting responses to it.

Anyway, yes, I'm seriously saying that it might be troublesome and
non-trivial to do it right.

In fact this EDITOR setting was taken from the Emacs manual, you can
find it here under the -a option:

Emacs is its own OS so that doesn't really convince me. ;) Besides, it
isn't really my call, and if you can come up with a clean patch for it I
guess David might consider accepting it.

 So long!

Bug#550945: [reportbug-ng] Crashes (python stack trace) when querying for certain packages

2009-10-14 Thread Jakob Lell

Package: reportbug-ng
Version: 1.8
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

When querying for the package gnome-desktop-environment either via a
command line parameter or via the field Query or Filter in the GUI,
the program prints a python stack trace.

Stack trace with gnome-desktop-environment as command line parameter:

Then the progam terminates.

Bug#549647: hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21 errors

2009-10-14 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Paolo Sala paolo.s...@csaricerche.com writes:

 Furthermore I can't understand why if I set dma (hdparm -d1 /dev/hda)
on, the dma is on even after a reboot; and why if I shut down the pc

 is failing?

While the IDE cable has a RESET line most drives do not fully reset
themself when that is triggered. It would not really surprise me that
the drive keeps its DMA status over a RESET signal, which is all the
drive sees from your reboot.

On the other hand if you power up again the drive is initited to
defaults and that seems to not include DMA. You can try to save
settings with hdparm if you see this again.

Bug#492366: dlatex - BTS reports 492365/6: XeTex problems for hebrew and greek

2009-10-14 Thread Andreas Hoenen
Hi Benoît and Martin,

regarding the two bug reports about XeTeX problems for hebrew and greek
documents (meanwhile more than one year old):

My first analysis was font problems to be resolved with the planned
XeTeX fontspec encoder. Meanwhile I think that this is misdirecting,
sorry: the DejaVu fonts used with XeTeX support hebrew and greek out of
the box.

With TexLive 2009 that is in the process of being packaged for Debian
(at a very early stage [3]) and the included Polyglossia package (the
TexLive 2007 version currently included in Debian doesn't contain
Polyglossia) I have managed to produce pdfs for the hebrew and the greek
test documents after replacing Babel with Polyglossia — I needed to
patch the TeX output of dblatex and to run xelatex manually:

$ dblatex -d -b xetex -P doc.collab.show=0 -P latex.output.revhistory=0 -P
doc.toc.show=0 test-he.dbk
$ cd temporary dblatex work dir
$ patch test-he.dbk.tex
$ xelatex test-he.dbk.tex

Attached are the hebrew [4] and greek [5] patch files. Please note that
this is a crude hack only meant as a proof of concept: using Polyglossia
instead of Babel with the XeTeX backend will support further languages.

the svn perl interface, and from your report it looks like that the
interface interferes with the concurrent svn co.

Bug#545693: ekiga: Receiving a call only can pick up it from keyboard (Control-o), not button available

2009-10-14 Thread Eugen Dedu
Hello Javier,

Are there two bugs (can't use green button, and can't receive calls) or
only one?

Please explain better what happens. What does it mean I can't use?
Is the green button greyed out? Doesn't pushing it change anything? Do
you see the notification window, near the GNOME panels/menu?

For not receiving calls: you might be hit by more than 1500 bytes
message bug. Please start ekiga on the other end with -d 4 and, when
this case appears, send us the -d 4 output (or look yourself the string
large inside; if there is one, then it's this bug; to workaround it,
remove some unused codecs).

Finally, please test with 3.2.6.

Bug#550946: Not working any more with perl 5.10.1-5

During and after the perl-upgrade to 5.10.1-5 safe-rm produced messages like
this:

Using /bin/rm directly solved the upgrade problem with perl, but safe-rm

by an re-install of safe-rm.

finch depends on libgstfarsight0.10-0, which depends on
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good, which depends on gconf2, libx11-6, libxdamage1 etc.
Personally I don't mind having an X installation on a headless ssh-only machine
(hard disk space is cheap). But the dependencies IMHO contradict the point
that finch is a console IM client.

Hi Sascha, the bug seems to be in zlib, not git. git uses the inflate()
function from zlib, which, in your case, returns the errors -3
(Z_DATA_ERROR) and -5 (Z_BUF_ERROR). See /usr/include/zlib.h.

Thanks for the bug report.
I am sure you must have felt what is missing when you read the description.

Can you give some ideas ? I am open to re-phrasing it.

I am used to iceweasel crashing often (at least once a day). After the last

too much.

When I try to restart iceweasel after a crash, it now displays a screen
beginning with the text

  Well, this is embarrassing.
Iceweasel is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is
usually caused by a recently opened web page.

Not very helpful, that. At least it could say which web page caused the
crash. And anyway a good program should ignore bad input, not crash because
of it. I cannot reproduce the crashes. They seem random. To me, the program
has become unusable.

 ~/.xsession-errors says after each crash:
 (firefox-bin:13308): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid unclassed pointer in
 cast to `GtkObject'

Could you try running MOZILLA_DISABLE_PLUGINS=1 iceweasel ?

Mike

That was my next move, but for now I notice this in your dmesg :

Bug#550948: google-gadgets: please make it compilable on GNU/Hurd

Package: google-gadgets
Version: 0.10.5-0.3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/Hurd.

It needs two small tweaks, attached as patches:
- debian.diff: to exclude network-manager-dev from the build-depends
- 04_hurd.diff: making the gnu os being recognized by GG as linux;
please note applying this patch requires relibtoolization, likewise it has
been done for the kfreebsd patch (you can just edit the 99_relibtoolize.patch
  and apply the change there)

Thanks,

Bug#550950: ITP: stx-btree-dev -- b+tree implementation in c++

2009-10-14 Thread Ury Stankevich
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

homepage: http://idlebox.net/2007/stx-btree/
License: GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 (LGPL).

Summary

The STX B+ Tree package is a set of C++ template classes implementing
a B+ tree key/data container in main memory. The classes are designed
as drop-in replacements of the STL containers set, map, multiset and
multimap and follow their interfaces very closely. By packing multiple
value pairs into each node of the tree the B+ tree reduces heap
fragmentation and utilizes cache-line effects better than the standard
red-black binary tree. The tree algorithms are based on the
implementation in Cormen, Leiserson and Rivest's Introduction into
Algorithms, Jan Jannink's paper and other algorithm resources.

Bug#542789: why do we need this

2009-10-14 Thread Peter Antoniac
Just wanted to ask for some reasons,.. as I see some ubuntufication of
 Debian ;)

Well, we have to make sure that there are no ubuntufications there. The Debian
reasons are that the ubuntu-dev-tools contains some scripts/apps that are
useful with sbuild tool (like bootstrapping, lvm images, etc.). It is about
those tools and some others[1] that could be a good contribution to debian
tools.

Bug#550953: piuparts should also ignore index.db for non-English manpages

2009-10-14 Thread Dave Holland
Package: piuparts
Version: 0.36

piuparts ignores /var/cache/man/index.db but it should ignore the
non-English equivalents such as /var/cache/man/es/index.db too.
I noticed this since piuparts started reporting errors like this
when the package contains a non-English manual page:

0m18.3s ERROR: FAIL: After purging files have been modified:
   /var/cache/man/es/index.db not owned

(from http://piuparts.debian.org/sid/fail/enemies-of-carlotta_1.2.6-2.log )

Suggested fix: add /var/cache/man/.*/index.db to the definition of
ignored_patterns in /usr/sbin/piuparts.

Cheers,
Dave

In line with the emdebian goals, openttd should support being cross

There were no messages on the terminal and no crash. Did not try
if for very long, though. Plug-in-less life is not so nice (e.g.
no youtube).

omitted)

Gecko Media Player 0.9.8

IcedTea Java Web Browser Plugin

File name: IcedTeaPlugin.so

Silverlight Plug-In

File name: libmoonloader.so
1.0.30401.0

The Shockwave Flash is from the debian package
flashplugin-nonfree. If I uninstall it, I cannot play flash movies
(like youtube).

If I then reinstall it, youtube works without problems; but videos
on some other sites apparently do cause problems. An example is
http://www.myfoxboston.com (a news site). Some of the news items
show movies in a small window to the left. Then, with iceweasel
called from the terminal, there is a seemingly endless number of
warnings:

(firefox-bin:8785): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

The warnings are serious. A few clicks later iceweasel crashed
(vanished with segfault). I cannot know for certain if the crash
is really caused by these XID collisions. When restarted,
iceweasel displayed the This is embarrassing screen again.

What drivers are you using for your video card? How do you install them?

I don't know (nowadays I just use stock kernels and they always
work). I just checked though, and the game Foobilliard (which
requires hardware acceleration) no longer appears to be
accelerated. glxgears is slow. lsmod says I have a module called
radeon, which itself uses a module called drm.

According to apt-file search, the file R200_cp.bin is in the
package firmware-linux. I'll try installing it tonight. Must rush
and do something else now.

Bug#550954: ITP: alien-hunter -- Interpolated Variable Order Motifs to identify horizontally acquired DNA

Description : Interpolated Variable Order Motifs to identify horizontally
acquired DNA

Alien_hunter is an application for the prediction of putative
Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT) events with the implementation of
Interpolated Variable Order Motifs (IVOMs). An IVOM approach
exploits compositional biases using variable order motif distributions
and captures more reliably the local composition of a sequence compared
to fixed-order methods. Optionally the predictions can be parsed into a
2-state 2nd order Hidden Markov Model (HMM), in a change-point detection
framework, to optimize the localization of the boundaries of the
predicted regions. The predictions (embl format) can be automatically
loaded into Artemis genome viewer freely available at:
 http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Software/Artemis/.

Bug#550957: wicd: 8bit non-printable characters in network mode string lead to wicd-client failure

2009-10-14 Thread Julien-externe BLACHE
Source: wicd
Version: 1.5.9-1

Hi,

We've run into a bug in wicd leading to the wicd-client failing with a
python backtrace, leaving it in an unusable state.

As it happens, we are seeing a number of wireless networks in our
neighbourhood for which iwlist reports a bogus network mode string
containing mostly 8bit non-printable characters. This makes DBus very
unhappy when wicd-client queries the server for the AP mode while
displaying the network list.

Attached is a proposed fix, restraining the possible characters in the
network mode string to [A-Za-z-] and dropping the network if the string
doesn't match. This should be enough to accomodate all currently-existing
network modes.

Patch applies to 1.5.9, minor tweak needed after that (regexp options).

Thanks,

JB.

I found a work around thanks to some googling and seeing the
bug in ubuntu

The KVM needs the -nx flag to allow it to work. You can achieve this
with the following steps

create the file /etc/libvirt/qemu/kvm-32 with the following contents

#!/bin/bash
exec kvm -cpu qemu32,-nx `echo $*`

and make it executable.

In the same directory you should find the xml file for your virtual
machine. In my case it was called windows.xml

Inside that file there is a line

emulator/usr/bin/kvm/emulator

change it to

emulator/etc/libvirt/qemu/kvm-32/emulator

You will need to restart libvirt-bin

/etc/init.d/libvirt-bin restart

and then the virtual machine can be started and windows runs fine.

Bug#550958: gparted: The error message for NTFS partitions if ntfsprogs is not installed is too generic

2009-10-14 Thread Michael Karcher
Package: gparted
Version: 0.4.6-2
Severity: wishlist

When I run gparted on a system without ntfsprogs installed, I get the
warning sign on NTFS partitions because gparted can't work on NTFS
partitions without ntfsprogs. That's all fair, but the explanation for the
warning sign is

Unable to read the contents of this file system! Because of this some
operations may be unavailable.

while it would be much more informative if it read

ntfsresize --info failed for this file system. Check that ntfsprogs is
installed

or something like that. I know that there is a Suggests: ntfsprogs on
gparted in Debian, but I still think this error message should be improved.

Note that a pointer does not fit in an integer on 64 bit arches.
A pointer is 64 bit, an integer 32 bit.

This is bug #314666 revisited. Fix proposed there was mostly incorporated
upstream, but not complete. The part not included by upstream was the
change of int (and boolean, which seems mapped to int) to long in the
above lines, so this problem reappears.

I have been playing to build a lenny x86_64 backport (I still use idraw
frequently). I successfully built the package with gcc 4.3 in a x86_64
lenny box with attached patch. Instead of changing int and boolean to
long in offending lines I changed it to intptr_t (and unsigned int to
uintptr_t), from stdint.h. Seems included by default, so no need of
 explicitly including that header.

I expect it to also build properly in a x86_64 sid box, but cannot check
now. Since stdint.h is provided by libc6 since some time ago I hope it
is available in all currently released arches.

intptr_t and uintptr_t are c99 standard types to handle this kind of
things. I think they should already be available in all Debian arches.

Note that attached patch is only what I used to build the package, so is
neither tagged as a NMU nor closes the bug. Not sure about the NMU policy
for QA maintained packages, but if you want me to turn that into a real
 NMU just tell.

Actually I have an NMU ready, in case you want me to upload. diff is
attached.

Bug#550902: bug installing debian 5.03 - perhaps related to grub

The install seemed to go fine.
When I rebooted, I got a grub message about with an error like
'error 15'. I did not get to the grub boot menu.

It would have been better if you filed a normal installation-report:
 http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch05s04.html.en#problem-report

That is clearly a better way to report issues, however I couldn't find that,
 looking at http://www.debian.org/Bugs/

Yeah it's AFAIK only in the installation-howto.

But I close now the report, instead of just reassigning to
grub-installer, where this would belong to, because we switched now to
 GRUB 2 by default.
I doubt it has the same problem.

You could try out the daily images or wait until alpha 1 gets released
 and then try again.
If it still has problems booting your installed system, then please file
a regular installation-report with attaching the compressed syslog of
 the installer.
Even if you can't directly boot your system, you can still get the logs
from a usual LiveCD or even debian-installer's rescue mode.
 I think they're in /var/log/installer/

Ok. Any idea when GRUB 2 will get into the stable release?
I would prefer to be running a more thoroughly debugged version of the os.

GRUB 2 is packaged in lenny already and in expert you should have got
the question to use it.
But the lenny version of it isn't yet that stable.
Or is your /boot on a SATA fake RAID aka dmraid?
Then you can't use grub2 yet.
With the daily businesscard you can also install stable/lenny if you use
expert mode or boot with priority=medium which doestn't show every
question of expert mode.

Bug#550962: kbd-chooser: please let Bépo keyboard layout available when choosing kbd layout

2009-10-14 Thread Frederic Boiteux
Package: kbd-chooser
Version: 1.48
Severity: normal

Quite a lot of people in France now uses the 'dvorak like' Bépo keyboard layout
(as described in www.bepo.fr) and can have their keyboard using this particular
layout, either with sticks, either through the TypeMatrix ergonomic keyboard.

It would be helpful to be able to select the Bépo layout as early as possible,
because it's very different from any other layout, and so it's very difficult
to type when using the default french layout (azerty), and is error prone when
typing the root password on a wrong layout !
I faced this problem when testing the Squeeze' daily debian-installer, but I
also uses debian-installer system (from Lenny) in rescue-mode, and i face the
same problem in this case.

The Bépo layout is already defined in console-data and available in Xorg (and
so in console-setup), but I didn't found how to patch kbd-chooser to let
propose it …

As a side note, the french translation of Bépo layout's description in
console-setup is incorrect, and have been fixed in xkeyboard-config's 1.7
release, not yet packaged.

  with regards,
Frédéric Boiteux.

Bug#481508: some investigations

2009-10-14 Thread Eugene V. Lyubimkin
Hello Paul,

I think this is a good idea, however depending on unicore-data will pull
additional ~8 MiB to standard system (which perl-modules is part of and
unicode-data will need to become standard too):

$ dpkg -L perl-modules  | grep unicore | grep txt | xargs wc -c | tail -n1
4120543 total

$ cupt show unicode-data | grep size
Uncompressed size: 12.0MiB

Also, since unicode-data contains the files under different paths I don't know
whether perl can be configured to use Unicode data from other location. Niko?

I have about 1-2 days to test things on the machine, after that I'll give

 very annoying bug.

Based on kerneloops data, this bug seems to have been fixed in 2.6.27:

Unfortunately I cannot find a specific fix. The changes made to

I dug through syslog and think I
have a valid stack trace for you to analyze, please see attached.

It looks like the regular polling of the CD-ROM drive is taking a very
long time and delays the suspend process so long that it is aborted.
Does the drive still work?

Ben.

not used. Use startx -- -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp if you want to force
 this.

Thanks - that's what I've been doing. I didn't realise that server

This happens with all combinations of arguments I tried. It was working
yesterday. Probably related that I upgraded perl packages from 5.10.0-25
to 5.10.1-5 yesterday evening.

Commenting out all instances of use strict and use warnings FATAL = 'all'
seems to be usable as a workaround.

you might need to wait a bit to have it built / published since it got
 uploaded today.

So, I originally reported this bug against gnome-bluetooth, which had an
explicit Turn Bluetooth off menu item. I wanted it to remember that
setting across reboots. Current gnome-bluetooth doesn't actually seem
to *have* that setting, so I can't seem to turn bluetooth off at all.
Meanwhile, I also upgraded to bluez 4.56-2, but I don't see how that
helps.

In short, this seems to have gotten worse with newer gnome-bluetooth,
and bluez didn't affect it at all.

Bug#550911: fusecompress: lzma is not compiled in

2009-10-14 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Hi Ritesh,

Ritesh Raj Sarraf wrote:

fusecompress needs version 4.999.9beta of the xz lzma library. The current
version of the library in Debian (Experimental) is 4.999.8beta.

Are you sure about this? 4.999.9beta+20091002-1 was uploaded to experimental
about a week and a half ago, so I think it should have reached you.

I would prefer enabling support for lzma once it moves out of beta and is part
 of unstable.

If all goes as planned, it will be a couple of weeks before XZ Utils is part
of unstable. This is because of packaging issues rather than the stability of
the upstream package. (We cannot provide an xz-lzma conflicting with the
current lzma package, since the latter is essential; the fix is to update dpkg
to use liblzma so lzma is no longer required.) If it is useful, I can’t see
much wrong with enabling support for lzma in fusecompress for experimental,
though I’m not sure how much that would help people.

Thanks for the note --- it is useful to see how the library might be used.

Jonathan

Bug#497023: [cfortran] Will add a warning

2009-10-14 Thread Bastien ROUCARIES
Package: cfortran
Version: 4.4-13

cfortran.h shouldn't make any assumption about what FORTRAN compiler the
user has chosen. Presently, cfortran.h assumes that the FORTRAN code has
been compiled with g77/gfortran if symbols __GCC__ and linux are
defined when compiling C/C++; however, one might use gcc to compile the
C/C++ source and a non-GNU compiler for the FORTRAN part.

Because this change will not be backward compatible, I will not do that but
warm the user using a #warning clause that you should add a #define as
specified
in the README.

Unfortunately there is no better way to match those devices as the GPSr just use
a standard ftdi chip and too often don't come with any special product id,
ATTRS{product}==FT232R USB UART would match here, too. I know that this is not
the best way, but there is no workaround yet. Best for you would be to remove
the line from the udev rules for now.
There was a discussion on improving the detection by running a gpsd stub which
tries to detect the gps so the udev symlinks and hotplug magic would only be
triggered if there is really a gps attached, so it might be better in the
future.

Also running the hotplug wrapper should not make any trouble, gpsd will listen
on the port and try to detect a gps, if there is none, it should stop using the
port.

Best regards,

Bernd

Bug#550955: installation-reports: installer unable to use package repositories

2009-10-14 Thread Janusz S. =?UTF-8?Q?Bie=C5=84
On Wed, 14 Oct 2009 Felix Zielcke fziel...@z-51.de wrote:

Where exactly does it fail with what error message?

Unfortunately I don't remeber the exact wording.

And would it be possible for you to attach the compressed installer
 syslog?

I'm not sure how to dig it out from the VBox virtual machine disk (the
host is Debian Lenny). I guess I can attach it to another virtual
machine, but I never have done it before.

I will try to reproduce the problem in a day or so.

Best regards

Janusz

Bug#390504: variable moved

2009-10-14 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi Thomas,

On Mittwoch, 14. Oktober 2009, Thomas Lange wrote:
In the next FAI version the variable FAI_CONFIGDIR will be moved to
 make-fai-nfsroot.conf

A sensible default for FAI_CONFIG_SRC is not possible, because the
client can't guess where to get the config space from. So this
information must be provided by the install server, or a packages that
 contains the config space.

Packages which contain config spaces cannot overwrite configuration files
belonging to the fai-client package. So this wont work.

But if FAI_CONFIG_SRC would default to a known value, such as /srv/fai/config
or /var/lib/fai/config, packages which contain config spaces could provide
that directory :-)

Holger

Bug#550972: Unable to handle kernel paging request for data at address 0x4912a214

2009-10-14 Thread Simon Richter
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.30-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

my PegasosII crashed a few days ago, writing the attached three blocks
of information to the syslog, then going into a half-dead state. Network
traffic was still routed/masqueraded normally and TCP connections
accepted, but connections to the sshd just hung. The getty on the serial
console was dead as well, but SysRq appeared to work.

This is a slightly older kernel, from linux-image-2.6.30-1-powerpc
version 2.6.30-6.
