Hi Bill,
I was looking at the FT-920 manual aand it seems like you have to set the mode
to DATA-USB when using the data jack. There are some other settings after that
that I didn't really follow since I've never had my hands on that radio. See
pages 55 and 56 of the manual and maybe it will
Is there any radio that has a way to directly drive the IF signal? And
can a regular sound card be able to directly drive the IF signal?
Jerry -- KF5ADY
The FlexRadio products are driven from a sound card. This uses a low frequency
IF and quadrature mixing for image rejection. The HPSDR from TAPR converts
directly to and from RF using a high-speed DAC and ADC. At this point it
produces only a few milliwatts and needs an external power amlifier.
No I have not done anything with that file as yet.
Never think about it till now. I'll get on that today.

HA! I didn't see this message when I went to your mailbox this
morning. I wanted to see what you did do with the Info command.
It looks like I saw the first creation without realizing it. I saw
the message below AFTER I accessed your new Info thingie.
Where did you save that puppy for use?
Look for the file infofile.txt in
c:\program files \ airmail
Jim has some default text there. Just edit it to your liking
and save.

Hello Jerry,
In the last version of Multipsk (4.13), there is a SdR interface which can
RX/TX all transmissions between -24 to 24 KHz for a standard sound card and
up to +/- 92 KHz for some hight quality sound cards.
So you can drive the IF signal from Multipsk (for digital modes).

I lamented the poor DX conditions while in the DX area of Ham Radio
Deluxe Forums today. Someone pointed out that although conditions are
poor, I reported reception of 41 different countries to PSK Reporter
in the past week. So, this is a reminder to all that even in poor
solar conditions, the
Well, I guess I will give the digital modes a try, and need a few suggestions
on which modes to try first and which software to use.
I've had tons of psk and rtty qsos, but want to try some of the more exotic
ones. With the upcoming TARA Skirmish and Feld Hell Sprint, now would be an
Welcome Bob. DM780 will perform well for you with the most popular
modes, Multipsk will add a few more modes. Take a look at FLDIGI
also. All three will give you the most used modes. In addition to

Quite simply put, the manual that came with the radio in some areas is

So, I take from this that you need to make sure that the radio is
data usb , is it ? I think if the rig is in plain USB mode, audio
is not passed from the data port.

Yes, I remember that message some time ago and it was useful.

This is really simple, hope I do not insult you..
Have you double checked that your line out from the sound card is
actually working and the levels from it are sufficient to drive the
radio ? I have run in to some laptops , and some Compaq desktops,
that have insufficient audio output levels and
Andy,
Couldn't agree more. Not enough solar output to open the upper HF bands these
days, but daily conditions within mid-spectrum have been very good. The Dx
cluster reflects this.

And for those not familiar with DM780 and the PSK reporter, play around here
