RE: [IMail Forum] Store and forward script
Yep, I tried to come up with something with Declude (you even gave some pointers) but had no luck. I'm just surprised and disappointed that no one is doing this. Needless to say my knowledge of using tokens isn't well enough to write the script on my own. I need a dos script to read the imail registry from server A, dump a list of the domains to a batch file, and the run the store and forward command for each domain on server B. Any help is much appreciated! You can use the free DOMLIST from Declude (www.declude.com) to get a domain dump, then parse the output into the HOSTS file. Note, though, that the traditional dumb store-and-forward offers you no protection against dictionary attacks, while the LDAP-based store-and-forward you can implement using ldap2aliases (see my sig) offers a more complete solution. --Sandy Sanford Whiteman, Chief Technologist Broadleaf Systems, a division of Cypress Integrated Systems, Inc. e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SpamAssassin plugs into Declude! http://www.mailmage.com/products/software/freeutils/SPAMC32/download/release / Defuse Dictionary Attacks: Turn Exchange or IMail mailboxes into IMail Aliases! http://www.mailmage.com/products/software/freeutils/exchange2aliases/downloa d/release/ http://www.mailmage.com/products/software/freeutils/ldap2aliases/download/re lease/ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/ To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
Re: [IMail Forum] status=3 but mail delivers multiple times
What version of IMail are you running? the log snippet you sent shows the start of one message and the requeueing of another...need more of the log to see what's really happening Eric S - Original Message - From: mail-lists [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: IMail_Forum@list.ipswitch.com Sent: Friday, January 28, 2005 1:42 PM Subject: [IMail Forum] status=3 but mail delivers multiple times Hi, We moved to a different ISP and had a mess with DNS afterwards. I've gotten it all settled, but am still waiting for a PTR record for our mail server to propagate through the internet. The issue is that IMail will deliver the same message multiple times, sometimes upwards of 30 or so. Here is a copy of one of the messages. It sends all of the data, but then receives the Blocking Call Cancelled error, which according to IPSwitch, is because the receiving server can't do a reverse lookup on our IP. The status is given as 3, a failure. However the message DOES get delivered to the recipient. But then the next time the smtp task goes through the queue, it sends the message again, successfully, even with the status code being 3. I have to physically go in and delete the SMD files for it to stop sending over and over again to the recipient.. It shouldn't be more than another day before the PTR record takes everywhere, but is there any reason for this to happen? Thanks! [IMail Forum] Email Archiving Software
I have taken a look through the IMail list archives looking for a discussion on Email Archiving. I can't find anything that I can sink my teeth into. Is there anyone on the list willing to share what solution they are using to archive their email. I'm sure that forces such as SOX, NASD3110 3111 and SEC17a are moving mail administrators to comply. Please don't limit the solutions to an IMail only; I'm interested in hearing all solutions for all servers. RE: [IMail Forum] Email Archiving Software
The solution I have in place at 2 clients with Exchange servers is the following: (Can be adapted, see further down.) 1. Setup an archive domain account. 2. Copy all e-mail to that account. 3. Run exmerge daily from that account to create a daily PST file. 4. The PST file gets burned to CD for permanent storage and copied to a store location on a NAS. 5. Using a program called ActiveFolders by C2C can run queries against the PST files on the NAS and can either provide a report or copy matching e-mails to a Public folder for review. To adapt to Imail: 1. Create and use the copy all account. 2. Daily/weekly connect it that account via POP3 and download into Outlook. 3. Export messages by day into a PST file. Re: [IMail Forum] AOL TOS Notifications
Since they now also strip out all headers (they used to leave headers intact so we used Declude's customer header ability to note the intended recipient), the best thing to do is include an unsub link that has a unique identifier for the particular user. Not sure if your mailing list subscription system will do that for you, but a lot of them on the market will do that. RE: [IMail Forum] AOL TOS Notifications
What is odd is the headers are there about 75% of the time. Weird. At 12:37 PM 1/31/2005, you wrote: The TOS notices I get have the spam email attached so you can look at the header info to get the imail message id. We use mxguard so it is listed as 'X-mxGuard-Spool-ID' I sent the headers that were included in the email from AOL. The rest of the email below the header that was already sent is just: - Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Precedence: bulk Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-AOL-IP: 216.19.194.104 The new newsletter was delivered last night. I am having this problem too. How can unsubscribe these fools if I don't know who they are! unfortunately not. since most AOL people are naive to the internet, they just click on a spam icon to report you. we've turned off all forwarding to AOL by our customers because our own customers were reporting our mail server as delivering spam to them. The email client doesn't matter...I can see the headers just fine... This is why, if you do the list mailing correctly, the Youa re subscribed as emailaddress here at the bottom of all mailing, you will see who it was. This is what I do. Also, they do not always flag the spam on purpose. If they have set the filtering too high, then it blocks false positives. I usually contact the client directly to make sure this is what they want. Re: [IMail Forum] AOL TOS Notifications
Then it's hit or miss with AOL (since John reported that sometimes the headers have come through for him...we haven't had as much success with that as he has). Didn't know if you hadn't added a real subscription management system in lieu of the simple listserv in IMail, and just use IMail for the delivery and receipt. Your best bet would be to do just that. This is what I do. Also, they do not always flag the spam on purpose. If they have set the filtering too high, then it blocks false positives. I usually contact the client directly to make sure this is what they want. About 95% it was an auto-filtering feature form AOL that caused the problem.Travis From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [ mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Darin CoxSent: Monday, January 31, 2005 12:22 PMTo: IMail_Forum@list.ipswitch.comSubject: Re: [IMail Forum] AOL TOS NotificationsThe email client doesn't matter...I can see the headers just fine... The issue is that AOL has recently started stripping out all custom headers, making it difficult, if not impossible, to tell the intended recipient from the headers. That's why I suggested a link with a tracking ID in the body of the email...like many unsub links will do.Darin.- Original Message - From: Matrosity Tech Support To: IMail_Forum@list.ipswitch.com Sent: Monday, January 31, 2005 2:53 PMSubject: Re: [IMail Forum] AOL TOS NotificationsTry thunderbird and you'll see the header.Darin Cox wrote: Is that not being removed now that AOL strips out all headers (as of a monthor two ago)?Darin.- Original Message - From: "Matrosity Tech Support" [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: IMail_Forum@list.ipswitch.comSent: Monday, January 31, 2005 2:37 PMSubject: Re: [IMail Forum] AOL TOS NotificationsThe TOS notices I get have the "spam" email attached so you can look atthe header info to get the imail message id.
