Google calendar can do that. You can set it to send txt reminders an hour
before meetings, or any amount of time you want. It also sends a daily
agenda with everything you have going on that day. I love it and use it
daily.

Pretty sure Twitter doesn't do this (yet).

[videoblogging] tape reader

2007-04-17 Thread Bev Sykes
I have a Canon mini DVD camcorder which takes a mini DV tape. The
connection to the computer is on the side of the camera and I could
see after I started working with it that there was a real danger in it
becoming loose.

Thanks to my dog, who bumped the camera, it did. Now the computer
won't read the camera and though the CAMERA works fine, I can't
transfer tapes to my computer without finding a camera to borrow. I
can send the camera it for repairs, but I can see that there is a
great danger of this happening again and I'm wondering if it's worth
paying for repairs. I can't afford a new camera, but I'm wondering if
there exists such a thing as a tape reader, like we have card readers
for digital cameras, which could just be plugged into the computer
permanently and eliminate the need for having the camera near the
computer at all.

A search on the internet yielded only mini DVD players, which I can't
use, or it yielded something that was in the $1,000 range. I was
hoping for something significantly more affordable.

Any ideas?

If it's possible to e-mail me privately ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) I would
really appreciate it, since I am going out of town for the next two
days and any response might get buried in the deluge that is this
group!

Thanks so much for your help.

[videoblogging] Re: tape reader

2007-04-17 Thread Rupert
Hi Bev,

I think you might be having trouble finding what you're looking for
because of terminology - rather than a Player, try looking for a DV
Deck - you should be able to hire one from a local media company
(from Yellow Pages?) for just a few dollars - they're expensive to buy.

They always advise that you should use a DV deck instead of your
camcorder, both to avoid breaking the DV connection and to avoid wear
on your tape heads mechanism.

Best,

Re: [videoblogging] will ferrel

2007-04-17 Thread Rupert
No! We mustn't let it die! :)

Speaking of What is a videoblog?, Eric Rice twittered about some
great little vlogs he'd seen on Youtube.

Started with a video called Why Do You Tube?*

The guy I'm linking to here has been totally turned on by the
experience, just like so many of us have - and I realised how often I
used to see psyched-up to-camera pieces from people in this group
about why videoblogging is cool, and how rarely I see those now that
it's become so familiar to so many of us.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPl6QeK87sM

Rupert

* I'm always slightly annoyed when these popular YT videos/series/
memes have such branded titles - it's like someone replacing the word
coffee with Starbucks (i like Starbucks coffee, but you know what I
mean) - and sometimes they are little more than a mashup of a lot of
people saying things like I am YouTube with reverence... IT'S A
BRAND, NOT A VERB! but actually this guy explains that it's an easy
shortcut to describe what he's doing ( and think how hard we find it
to define videoblogging). It has so far produced 395 video
responses. Imagine that. Cool. Oh, and 6169 text responses.
Yeah. Why *don't* I Tube??

[videoblogging] Fork You: Cooking with a Philly Attitude

2007-04-17 Thread Scott McNulty
I joined this group awhile ago, and I don't often come out of lurker
mode, but I thought I would share my newish (kinda) videoblog with
everyone. I didn't want to email everyone until I was sure we would
keep it up, but since I just posted our 18th episode, I think it is
safe to say we are going to keep doing it:

http://www.forkyou.tv

It is a cooking show that plays on that age old formula of pairing an
idiot (that would be me) with a knowledgeable person (Marisa) to
create informative and, we hope, entertaining shows.

Let me know what you all think.

Oh, and I know the color isn't all that great. Sadly, I am partially
color blind and I just can't seem to get the colors to match.

Thanks,

Very cool!

Here are some final tallies. Interesting enough, more videos have
kept coming in - some people are doing Day 8, 9, 10, etc I guess
maybe they thought it was Videoblogging Fortnight? We now have over
1000 videos!

Tally on Mefeedia: 784 videos.

(shameless self-promotion here - but thought you might be interested)
We did find track Mefeedia versus others and found, as of the end of
VBW (these numbers are different now), we found the following number
of videos when searching for videobloggingweek2007:

• Mefeedia found: 784 videos
• Technorati Blog Search found 481 blog posts
• Google Blog Search found 321 blog entries
• Google Video found 204 videos
• Yahoo Video found 152 videos
• MSN Video found 96 videos
• AOL Video found 96 videos

I really enjoyed watching a large number of the videos for the week -
it was awesome, can't wait until next year!

Thanks,

Re: [videoblogging] RSS feed

2007-04-17 Thread T . Whid
Hi,

Two ways that I know of.

You need to subscribe the podcast then...

1) select the little 'i' icon on the podcast once it's subbed and it's
listed under the title and above the description. You can't copy and paste
it tho!
2) drag the podcast out of iTunes and onto your desktop. This will create a
.pcast file on the desktop, which is just xml. Open that file in a text
editor (TextEdit works) and it's there as the 'href' attribute of the 'link'
tag. And you can copy and paste :-) (I've only tested that on OS X, don't
know if it works on Windows.)

In windows I right-click on the podcast, and choose 'show description'
...and it's at the top of the new pop up window that displays.

Thanks,
Devlon

However, you could use twitterfeed to subscribe to the RSS feed of your
Google Calendar. (Hmm, maybe I'll have to try that)

Google calendar can do that. You can set it to send txt reminders an hour
before meetings, or any amount of time you want. It also sends a daily
agenda with everything you have going on that day. I love it and use it
daily.

Pretty sure Twitter doesn't do this (yet).
