1) Why is it that it would take such a huge festival (DEMF) for people to
come out and give respect to the music and innovators (Detroit DJs and
Producers)?
Ill take a stab at this ?. If I remember correctly the event that Jeff
played earlier this (last) year was at St.Andrews-a venue that sucks, both
in security and often sound. It was also around 30 bucks to get in & if i
remember correctly there was stuff going on that night that was cheaper and
about at the same par level.
DEMF was free, outdoors, with tons of happy people and the security aren't
(weren't) assholes who say things like 'show me your tits' to get in.
2) Would this year's DEMF change certain perceptions about Detroit locals
supporting their 'home' DJs, which may have been obviously somewhat lacking
in the past and (possibly) driven some of these DJs/Producers to go
elsewhere, including Europe?
Just to put a spin on the ?, Does this years DEMF change certain
perceptions of DJs on local support? You have also have to take into
consideration that many of the promoters here can't compete with the
promoters in Europe-dollar bill wise. Look up the cost of living in Detroit
one day and then look it up in places like NY and London. Alot of promoters
in Detroit dont have that kind of mula, and the people dont have that kind
of cash to back it up with entry fees.>
how such a city of such an important geographical musical nucleus would
have a side effect of its population 'supposedly' not giving the techno
innovators the recognition they deserve.
How does that saying go? If you were work in an Ice Cream store, you
eventually don't eat it...? What Im saying is, when you have something that
is special to everyone else, but a regular thing to you-you never realize
its worth. I didnt realize this about Detroit until i went to the UK.
uh huh.
