I figured we were on the same wave length. Hahaha @ a manifesto. I think One X was the name of The Works before it changed out. If the Works is right near old Tiger Stadium, then I think yes. It was primarily a gay club when it opened, but then it started doing after parties for shows. I remember a party after Underworld played and Alan Oldham, Vapour Space and some others were on the bill.
I saw some really incredible shows at Motor, but things just don't last. One place that has consistently stood the test of time is Harpo's!!!! Who can hate on $2 pitchers of beer and death metal? :p ----- Original Message ---- From: Alex Lugo <[email protected]> To: 313 313 <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 2, 2009 11:35:49 AM Subject: Re: (313) Kenny Larkin/Schlomi Aber "Sketches" Exactly Joel. I sent Denise a brief manifesto for her perusal. :) Never heard of One X, been gone a while from Detroit. The Works is on Michigan Ave. ----- Original Message ---- From: Joel Gajewski <[email protected]> To: Denise Dalphond <[email protected]>; Alex Lugo <[email protected]> Cc: list 313 <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 2, 2009 11:35:56 AM Subject: Re: (313) Kenny Larkin/Schlomi Aber "Sketches" I assume Alex is referring to the craptastic talent that started to be booked at Motor after Gina G (was that her name?) left (maybe for the venue Science?). Kimball Collins became a resident - ugh. Paul Jokenfold was booked. Shortly, before Motor closed I caught Bassment Jaxx there - not a bad show, except for some of the patrons being a Kiss FM type crowd. I have never been to The Works, but isn't the venue once known as One X off Michigan Ave? Maybe not, I have been gone a while. Either way The Works has had their fair shair of good talent booked there. One X had Beatdown Sundays for a while, if I am remembering correctly and they are the same venue. ----- Original Message ---- From: Denise Dalphond <[email protected]> To: Alex Lugo <[email protected]> Cc: list 313 <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 2:29:49 PM Subject: Re: (313) Kenny Larkin/Schlomi Aber "Sketches" Never went to Motor. I know a little about the club and it's history, but could you shed a bit more light on Motor's history and it's last days, Alex?
