"On Athanatos, Dopplereffekt grants us access to their lab once more while they
continue to research considerations of growth and decay through the vital
electron advancements that they first set out to explore during the Cellular
Automata session...

Joined on this occasion by fellow astral explorers Carsten Nicolai and Olaf
Bender, Athanatos contains some of the project's most sharp-edged sound design
to date. Further breaking the frame of Gesamtkunstwerk, Athanatos opens with a
harsh, icebreaker bassline that will instantly thrust you deep into the
project's cold mission mechanics. This EP takes the listener from the frozen
sounds of Hayflick Limit with its deprogramming of synth-pop, to the club ready
shipwreck sounds and surface paranoia of 'Eukaryotic Chromosomes'. While
'Telomere' goes into areas recalling Paranormale Aktivität, ahead of the
endpoint drowned-in-the-data gasp of 'Mitosis', which offers a glimpse of the
surface before pulling you back into the lab, the doors locked and lights off.

Athanatos calculates exactly the right amount of icy atmospherics needed to
explore the genetic conditions and chromosomal influences defining mortality.
For those without a science of music degree, this is the sound of Dopplereffekt
pushing even further out into the unknown, always in the search above or below
ground of cascading electronic rhythms and undiscovered particles of the
electro sound."
