UR always continue to surprise. Although it's not a major leap away from
anything they've done before, it shows that they willl lay down quality
tracks on releases. Personally I don't think they've done anything
particularly jawdropping since "Codebreaker" (excepting Jaguar) but
everything is of a good solid quality.

turned into a dedicated house head with a firm love for good techno I was
surprised to hear that housey a cut on ur. For me the original lacked
something as well, but the Aaron Carl mix just blows me away, maybe because
it does have that undefinable techno funk?

number of loop-based techno that I find increasingly hard to listen to. But
that's another story, and I guess that in the house world it is equally
difficult to find the gems amongst the loads and loads of rubbish pouring
out the record shops each and every week.

there has always been a certain electro funk undefinable techno vibe to even
there more jazzy cuts, whereas Hardlife, for me, is out and out house and
very different from anything else Mike has put out on UR. Dont get me wrong,
I dig it as a quality house cut and know that Mike puts out a variety of
styles through various projects (Hipnotech), but I was just kinda surprised
to hear a track that sounded so housey and pretty far removed from what I've
always expected from UR. It'll be interesting to see what they put out next.
