Terrence Parker -- tricks AND vibe. TP plays his heart out every time out. Other people that are right up there, in the harder vein -- Richie Hawtin, Bone, T1000, Dietrich Schoenemann. What makes a great DJ, beyond a certain nominal set of physical skills, is if he's having the party with you, and has the instincts to drop the right record every time. And sometimes it doesn't make sense to hear a tape afterwards because a great DJ with a good crowd are so in the moment that it loses a lot of it's meaning after the fact. In fact, dance music is at it's best is when it can put you completely in the moment.
