Not that unusual though. Between producing techno, performing it, DJ'ing, and listening to other DJs while you're waiting to get paid, I think many producers get their fill and look elsewhere for leisure listening.
I've heard this from more than one techno producer. Jazz is popular, as is classical music, and rock music. If you want to get Alan Oldham going about music, ask him about 4AD and Creation bands from the late 80s & early 90s...
